Greens were in good shape and rolled true; they were very hard though and it was important to hit irons to the front of greens for middle/back pins.

There is absolutely no penalty for missing fairways or greens. I hit multiple wayward tee shots that would have resulted in penalty strokes on most other courses but ended up as pars at Bayou Oaks. Plenty of bail out area around most of the greens too. I'd say it's the easiest course in the area.

If they're serious about getting the Zurich moved there they'll need to grow some knee high rough and tighten up those fairways b/c as it's currently set up the PGA guys would be playing in the 50s.

Overall, it's worth visiting and I'm pulling for them to be successful. It's not worth $100 though and the $180 they want from non-residents is laughable.

I wonder if it was intentional to make it somewhat easy to try and get more people out there. Growing rough is easy. Getting your membership up and holding it there is not.

Better to start out high and get people in the annual pass. Perception is reality when it comes to a price point.

I don't disagree with any of that.

I haven't played it yet, but want to. And that's where they're making their money right now. People who just want to play a new/hot course. Your review seems to be spot on though. Multiple people have come away with the same thoughts.

Of all the psychiatric hospitals in South Louisiana, Bayou Oaks was my favorite. Thank you for the review.

I also heard the greens were pretty easy, not much undulation and no grain yet, which is to be expected. I haven't had a chance to play yet, but will try and get out there this week.

I think people need to just drop this idea now. It isn't happening.
They mentioned getting it, but I think getting a minor league tour stop or some college tourney stuff is more realistic.

It'll be cool if it could snag a Web event

TPC charges $230 for non-residents...now that is laughable!

I agree the $100 fee is a little high but at least it includes range balls and cart. $80 would be fair. I give the course a solid B. There are several really good holes and several that could be improved. if the greens are kept in good shape then it will get a lot of play. I think they will definitely grow tall grass in some areas to help shape the holes and penalize bad shots. The water doesn't come into play as much as you'd think just looking at the course layout.

I played there for the first time this weekend and I feel the exact same way. I played really well and the conditions were excellent. I wasn't a fan of the gps in the carts because it just had a number for the yardage to center of the green. No overhead/satellite view or anything like the cart gps at Oak Wing. There were also no water coolers on the course and it's just a typical, flat Louisiana course. Nothing special about it.

I went there several times (visiting in a support role).
I wasn't impressed, dated architecture and furnishings.
The drapes did match the worn carpet as I recall.

Yeah. I played it last week and was surprised the greens were so easy. Hardly any "tiering" to them. There is really no rough to speak of and aside from a few holes, despite there being water all over, the water isn't really in play.

I was let down to be honest. I don't love TPC but it's just a better course with more character. Plenty of courses within 100 miles that are better than Bayou Oaks.

I guess the zurich moving to city park thing was all just talk. There is no chance that happens.

This is what I don't get, if you have a flat surface to work with at least make the greens and the surrounds really interesting. The mistake they made was giving the job to Rees Jones, no creativity whatsoever. I played Fallen Oak yesterday, and while Fazio had a better piece of land to work with, the best part of the course were the greens. Tiers, slopes, contours...

Hopefully they figure it out over time, but $24 mil is a lot of money for just an okay course.

What's the practice area situation? Is there a driving range, practice greens, etc?

I could see getting a practice membership, if that's an option.

3 putting greens with no chipping allowed and some old mats to hit off of across the street at the range, pretty sad

I have to think they will be upgrading the practice facilities in the future. In fact, the rumor was that the range will be getting an upgrade soon.
