I bought the Ryobi blower and trimmer from Home Depot...mainly because I already had a Ryobi drill, circular saw and reciprocating saw that all take the same battery so I have a bunch of extra batteries charged for when one gets drained. They aren't the most powerful blower and trimmers out there, but I have a small yard and it gets the job done for me.

80v Kobalt is the way to go. 40v will likely dissapoint you in any brand. It's the best bang for your buck and if you break it within 5 years they'll give you a new one.

I have the ryobi blower and weedeater/edger (they use the same base with interchangeable attachments) from home Depot. The work as good as any gas powered ones I've used. One battery last enough to do the whole yard and more.

Get the 40 volt though, the lesser ones don't have enough power.

Perfect use-case for gas-powered equipment. Almost all of the maintenance is due to long layoffs, so with no layoffs you have fewer problems.

I just need something that I can grab and get to work after it's been sitting for a couple months.

So do you not have a lawn mower? You have to get gas for that.
I do, and I'm well aware of what makes it go. But since you brought it up, the lawnmower is next on the chopping block, so if you have any recs for a battery powered robo-mower, I'm all ears.

Is there a gas-powered lawn equipment thread that you could be posting in?

I got the 40v Ryobi trimmer and leaf blower for my wife to use.

She says they works great and lasts about 30 - 40 min.

She did have one battery go bad almost immediately though.

why don't you just pay someone to maintain your yard, or do you not want them using gasoline either?

I don't have anything against using gas, I would just rather not frick with it anymore. And yeah, paying someone would save a lot of time, but it's an ongoing expense that I would rather avoid. I just want to save the hassle time, not buy all of my time back.

I bought a Kobalt 40 volt trimmer and a separate chainsaw.

They come with identical, interchangeable batteries and both do the small jobs that I need them for.

Battery lasts about 40 minutes of full speed run time. It only takes one hour to fully charge a dead battery.

Got them at Lowe's.

I have a 40 volt cheap black and decker trimmer and leaf blower

Works fine for my needs, single battery lasts long enough to weed eat and blow after.

Now a battery powered lawnmower aint gonna get the job done in South LA

I think a robo-mower would work fine, like a Roomba for the yard. It could run every night and just keep the yard trimmed all the time.

I got sick of gas powered tools too. Got a ryobi blower that was far better than previous battery and gas blowers. I got an edger after that since I already had the battery and it it awesome. I can do my whole yard in a third the time because it's so lightweight. Considering the weedeater but I have my doubts on it.

And what I'm trying to explain to you is that buying cheap Walmart trimmers and blowers, which I used to do as well, is a hassle. buying a good Echo or Stihl trimmer and blower, is not a hassle in any way.
if you are that hell bent on not going to the gas station once or twice a summer, since for some reason you can't fill up a tank of gas when you fill up your car too, then by all means, get a nice battery powered trimmer and blower.

I have a fairly large yard. I use my trimmer maybe once every 3 weeks. I use my blower probably 250+ days out of the year with all the god damn trees I have dropping shite into my courtyard every day.

People keep saying that, but I have a really hard time believing it. Are you really saying that you can simply not give a shite about the quality of gas you put in them, forget about stabilizer, forget about running it dry or draining the tank, and it'll just fire right up every spring? Anybody have an Echo or Stihl and had trouble?

It's not just doing it, it's remembering to do it. I'll put the tank in my truck when it's low, fill up my truck a couple days later, and forget all about the goddamned tank back there. Then I have to remember to go in and get some two stroke oil. Or, more likely, I just forget about taking the tank with me altogether and I have no gas when I'm ready to work, and I have to make a trip right then. Yeah, I probably need to work on my life organization skills, and maybe a battery powered trimmer is part of my solution for that.

Next I will probably build my own robot mower instead of spending $2k on a commercial one. I'm just trying to make lawn maintenance as hassle-free as possible without having to shell out a grand or two every single year to pay someone to do it.

Well, thanks. Got any recommendations?
