So, if you strike (even spank) your spouse, significant other, sibling, etc, it's a crime. Hit (spank) your child, not so much. This is despite more than ample evidence showing the link between spanking or hitting your child and aggression, along with a host of other negatives.
I am not talking about what Family Services or the conservative OT'ers would call abuse.

There's a difference between spanking and abuse. Only morons don't understand this.

Define "hitting your child"?

Out of curiosity, how old are you?

Spanking your spouse isn't abuse.

I don't see why spanking your child would be considered abuse. Slapping them and hitting them with sticks might be though

I believe you're trying to lump abuse and discipline all into one. There's a fine line between the two and what is ok to some people, isn't to others. I got mine and glad I did

Teaching versus taught

You're teaching your children whereas after a certain age they should be taught. We still punish those around us, just in different ways.

I am not talking about abuse. Try unwanted spanking on your spouse or adult relative. A battery charge would stand. And yes, even spankings are linked with hosts of negatives.

I can't understand why anyone would feel they need to spank their kids to discipline them, I have two, and if I need to get my point across I can do that without it being physical. Really baffles me, but to each their own I guess. (and yes, I got a spanking when I was little).

A good arse whipping solves a lot of problems.

Abuse and beating kids causes problems.

Spanking even on the butt. Do this to an adult and it's batter.
More than 43.

We were raised to be tough.

We well knew the consequences of our actions beforehand and still chose to act an arse. We knew we were gonna get the belt or the switch. Therefore it was pretty much our choice by our actions to get the belt or switch.

And I'll say this. I didn't cry, and I also didn't do it again.

America is full of pussies these days I swear. Not an ounce of toughness

Also if you put your spouse, significant other, sibling, etc,in "time-out" you'd likely be charged with kidnapping.

I would think it has to do with the child associating pain with misbehaving. Going to a "time out" inflicts little pain and certainly not any pain physically.

Who knows. I don't have kids. But my dog is the most well-behaved on the street.

They could just leave or so No, just like a child. Just like a boss "forcing" someone to work on hours or days they don't want to work. Not a crime, not kidnapping.
