I did have a really good uber driver Saturday night coming home from Grits. He had mints and chocolates in the cup holders and bottles of water in the door.

I never wanted to supply chocolates, especially during the summer months.

Is this where we laugh at all the uber people who blasted us 2 years ago?

As a whole for the consumer, UBER is still a better product.

It forced many taxi companies to update their tech and create an APP which is an incredible step up so I'm not standing outside of the bar for 30 minutes wandering if a taxi is even coming, or sitting on hold with Wanda at the dispatch center who was a complete B because she's been answering drunk calls all night.

Uber is still cheaper and much more widely available in BR than a taxi ever was.

At a minimum, I have the same taxi that was picking me up before UBER, and for a premium, I can use Uber black or XL for only a few bucks more.

First 10 experiences with Uber.. All but one were great... Clean cars, nice drivers..

Last 5... 3 have been dirty shitty cars.. The last guy couldnt even speak english and drove so fricking slow, probably because it was apparent he barely knew how to drive.

Does the blonde chick with the white Audi with black rims still drive in BR. She offers "favors", or so I have heard. Name was Lindsey I think.

a friend does Uber on the side and only goes in when there is surge pricing. Which he said is pretty often.

That's the best way to do it, it is easy to make $1000 a night when surges get high. I know people out here in AZ that made around $10,000 in 7 days of actual work last year between NYE, the Phoenix Open, Barrett Jackson and the Super Bowl weekend. Halloween out here always gets to between 7-9x surge out here as well.

Out of the last 5, I only asked 3 how long they had been driving. 2 were new and 1 had been driving since the beginning. The guy from the beginning was a college student and had a nice clean truck and water... Out of the 2 new.. One was good and the other was a dirty piece of crap car.

I get the feeling they are lowering their standards or people or just abusing the system.. Was supposed to ride with a friend a few weeks ago.. The ordered the Uber and when it showed.. The dude who was supposed to be driving was in the passenger seat and the driver was a chick.. We needed more room so they told them to take off and we drove ourselves.

Here's the thing, demand varies from market to market, so the amount of money people make varies. BR for example does not have the demand that Phoenix does. The only time I remember surge getting has high as 8x was this past New Year's holiday. It's only remotely close to being that high on gamedays.

Big Red was my boy

We would pay him in weed and edibles in exchange for rides

Well ya because BR doesn't have the big events but Halloween and NYE have to be huge. Another thing is that in BR drinking and driving isn't demonized like it is in the Phoenix Metro area. It's looked down upon here by the public and the laws back that up. You get 10 days in jail for your first DUI and I think it's either 2-3 months for your second. Also, you get the 2-3 months for your first if you are over .15 .Needless to say people don't drink and drive and that is huge for Uber.

I can tell you no driver in Baton Rouge has made 1000 dollars in a night. Average at the old rates was probably 150-200 at the old rates. That's before expenses in an 8-10 hour day during prime time Friday and Saturday. So maybe 15-20/hr before expenses.

Today has come.

It still isn't 5pm yet, but there still appears to be some drivers scattered around. Must be the noobs.
