Small problem, have a Steinway medium grand piano to move. Mover must be experienced in piano moves, since it just can't be pushed out the door and onto the truck.

Call your local piano store and ask them for a referral for this type of move.

Yep. Not like you're going cross country. Most moving companies are sketch.

The Louisiana Public Service Commission regulates household movers. Call them to make sure your movers are licensed and registered with them. They also may be able to tell you if they've had problems with any companies. (But they may not.)

The Attorney General's office can bring actions against fraudulent movers. They are definitely out there---movers that get your shite on their truck then lock the door and demand a higher amount in cash or else they hold your belongings hostage. The AG's office may be able to also tell you if they have complaints on a particular company. Call the consumer section and ask for the attorney or investigator who deals with fraudulent movers.

Get all of your quotes/estimates in writing and get your contract in your hand before they start loading your things. The moving industry in Louisiana is not as bad as in some other states, but as some other states (Texas in particular) have begun to crack down on their problem companies, I suspect we may have an uptick in scam moving companies. Good luck!
