And before you shite all over Baton Rouge....that is probably six more than San Francisco and Los Angeles cleared in that same time....combined.

At least six homeless encampments across East Baton Rouge have been cleared in recent months as community advocates say more people have been forced onto the streets over the past year.

quote:

When camps are cleared, authorities generally offer help — with housing, medical assistance and getting an ID or driver’s license — but not everyone wants it.

quote:

"They get pushed out and then they find somewhere else to congregate and then it just cycles," Beemer said. "There's not a lot of resolution."

Open drug use is common in these camps. The people don't want to go to a shelter because they aren't allowed to use illegal drugs in the shelters. Getting them treatment is one side of the equation. The other side is imposing consequences for open and illegal drug use. In those cases, a stint in jail away from it all is exactly what they need. It's humane and reasonable for those people to be arrested despite what the bleeding hearts say.

The other problem is that the homeless population is transient by nature. So you are getting people that are passing through southern towns during the winter from places that don't have a decent strategy for dealing with this. It's like playing whack-a-mole. One camp is cleared, then another one pops up a few miles away. And you cycle through this all year.

My concern is that if the encampments are cleared where do the homeless then relocate to. Also I have to give the group Keeping Tigertown Clean recognition for doing what we pay our city to do but refuses to.

This is a very good comparison. I live off 290 in Houston and not in one of the better areas (I’m moving in January to Katy) but I watch these frickers up close and personal. It’s the same people that rotate 8 intersections. The live mostly under the over pass. They clear them out, then they come back, one tent, 2 tent, 8 tent, 10 tent then they’re all cleared out in a day and the cycle repeats. I’ve seen the city out with the DOTD trucks and Bobcats to clear them. At least they wipe them out every so often.

It would suck. If you have to do it I'd move to Ascension Parish or something like that so you at least are south of BR traffic.

We should actually be using the same exact strategy for both.

If you're willing to put up with yellow spots in your grass for a little while, wasp spray is very effective.

and here's the solution.

you do this once and you tell them, we catch you again, and you're going to our homeless camp for 2 years.
Have a camp somewhere with some land, basically Angola where they can grow vegetables and have some livestock.
This camp should be as self sufficient as possible.
No drugs, no sex, teach them a trade and get them started on a path to working. After their 2 year stint, give them $4k so they can't complain that they don't have money. The deal is you go out and be a working member of society. If you get caught being homeless, or doing drugs, etc, then you're going straight to jail for 10 years, no parole.
either be a contributing member of our society, or get the frick out of Louisiana and don't come back.

Would you volunteer to go somewhere you couldn’t have sex for two years?

True, but the answer isn’t to just let the red ants take over, that’s for sure.

In addition to the drug use, is mental illness.

This country is ignoring that elephant in the room because it would take billions, if not trillions to study and treat. Can't put the homeless in a ward bc they're all full with waiting lists for weeks.

I saw the one off of Siegen (in the woods by the pond) is growing again. The homeless shelters were full a month ago. I know this because I was calling around looking for one for somebody. I do agree that many people do choose to live this way because of the drugs. As long as people are handing them cash the problem will persist. They are trespassing on public/private land so the police do have a right to move them.

EXACTLY

Just last week I am traveling down S. Sherwood and stop at the Coursey intersection and see quite the sight. There are 4 different beggars, each working their own piece of the intersection. At this point I’m wondering if they have unionized yet. It’s incredibly organized, like punching a clock and working your shift.

The problem is that people give them money to make themselves feel better, and that is only feeding more and more of this crap, and it will NEVER end until people STOP FEEDING IT.

Homeless should be granted a merciful death.
