That dude in the Marines landed a Harrier on a sawhorse when his nose gear wouldn't open.

I'd say that counts for something.

Navy pilots vs air force pilots is a 90's debate.

We debate SEAL vs Delta these days. Get with times guys.

Hornet driver checking in. Debates like this are pointless. I know plenty of top notch AF fighter pilots and plenty of top notch Navy and Marine fighter pilots. Nobody ever wins them all and we all have our good days and our "other" days. The Hornet with a Helmet Mounted Sight and Aim-9X has to be just about the best ACM platform ever built. I don't know how the F-22 guys do in the visual arena, never got to mix it up with them. Being able to "smoke everybody BVR before they even know you're there" is great in theory, it's just hard to do in the real world in a crowded battle space when it's hard to tell who's who. I can't wait until the advances of stealth technology turn it back into Dawn Patrol, guns only, he with the best eyeballs wins!

I will say that the boat thing is sort of a distinction. Yeah, they have ACLS, but they only do it at night, it only works sometimes, and you damn well better be able to land it yourself or be a really good swimmer!

There is no such thing as the F-14F model Tomcat. The final version of the Tomcat was the F-14D.

yes, they dogfight at TopGun, and usually the 18's win. except as a few have pointed out, when the raptors get the hornets at range.

I have not seen a F-22 Raptor in the U. S. Navy inventory. However, the adversary squadron(s) are composed of T-38s, F-16Ns, F-5s, and F/A-18A/B/C/D models.

Have been with the Navy for many years and was not aware of Raptors participating in Top Gun, since that is a U. S. Navy school. You may be thinking of Red Flag, which is put on by the USAF.

Navy pilots are the only pilots in the world to land on a aircraft carrier day and night good or bad weather. Not to mention the fact that the flight deck pitches and rolls with the ocean.

That is just the landing. The real measure of a fighter pilot is in the fight. There is no way to compare there because the fighters are very different. Navy fighter planes have to be heavy due to the controlled crash they do when landing.

You can look up kill ratios and such but you are comparing apples to oranges.
