Do you address people of the opposite sex as "mate" or "aussie"? Also, ALLOTOT, do you address members of the same sex as "mate" or "lass" or "aussie"?
This is for a professional case study and all findings will be reported directly to the head of anthorpology at Duke University.

Please find out if these greetings are region specific as well. This is a comprehensive study.

Your methods aren't very scientific. Good luck getting your findings published.

Australian culture is generally relaxed and laid back. Aussies often greet their friends and even people they don't know by saying "G'day" or "Ow ya goin mate".
I know for certain from being there several times that "Mate" is a colloquial word for friend. This would be similar to American terms like - man, dude, or buddy.
Mate is used to reference a man but you’ll even hear some Australian women using this word.

I VPN into Australia every night and get a kick out of Tipping Point imported from the UK and then their 4pm news followed by WWTBAM is entertaining AF. Like McAfee I caught the footy fever last summer. And then the very trashy Aussie version of MAFS. Seems like mate can be used for both sexs in a platonic relationship.
For some reason I still chuckle over "crackin'" in the place of "great" and with this vaccine, "jab" in place of "shot". Both sound ridiculously stupid.
