You are from Austin and think that anyone who doesn't think 6th street is the best place to go is a hipster? Come on man. Do you get out at all?

find a house on VRBO or airbnb near South Congress instead of staying on 6th street

There is no name for it. When people say "6th Street", that is the section they are talking about.

If you have never been, it is worth checking out. Most of the bars are pretty much the same old thing. Think of it as a much nicer, cleaner, and smaller Bourbon St (but you can't drink outside in the street).

No, I agree that all of those are better than 6th. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of East 6th, Rainey and South Congress are hipsters.

It's safe. There are a ton of people out there on the weekends and every once in a while there's a scuffle, but usually nothing serious.

Dirty 6th is just bourbon st light.

There are some quality bars scattered around the area. firehouse and garage are nice and right off 6th.

The part of 6th St that is famous is between I35 and Congress. 6th st has some lofts above the bars

can you think of the name of it?

He is referring to the entire stretch from Congress to I35 being the famous "6th street" that everyone thinks of.

The first thing most people think of when you say "Austin" is hipsters...They are pretty much everywhere. I've never felt that way about S. Congress though. Rainey and East 6th, yes. But the bars are at least interesting over there.

How many people are you looking to have in the rental? Around when are you going? I can help find a good place/area. My friends come out here all the time for bachelorette parties, etc.

I can also help point you to bars, restaurants in your budget. :)

Sounds like y'all two need to get your parties together and you won't need the bar scene!

I would do south congress and south 1st then. 6th street is just a cleaner Bourbon Street late at night. You may want that. Amazing food all over the town, Barley Swine is my favorite. You should look in to it if y'all are doing a legit dinner while there.

A bachelorette party will have fun on 6th St.

Things to do:

Barton Springs Pool
Walk Town Lake
Kayak on Town Lake
Hike the greenbelt (if it's not too hot). If it has been raining a good bit, there are swimming holes that are nice. They also do rock climbing there.

Restaurants / Food that you must try:
Torchy's Tacos
Hopdoddy (best burger i've ever had)
Trudy's or Chuy's - Tex Mex
LA Barbecue
John Mueller BBQ
