Atmos Energy Bill consistently $100+

Anybody else think this is high? Atmos energy bill this month is $136. They provide gas for my stove, fireplace, lanterns outside, heater as well as hot water heaters. I'm thinking there is a billing error. Third month in a row it's around 130 bones.

Maybe this is crazy, but perhaps it's due to all the cold weather we've been having lately, and the increase in nat gas prices

Trade you my gas bill was $250 this month. You do realize it's been cold as frick right?

You are complaining?

Seems like a reasonable price considering the number of things you have that use gas and the weather lately.

Well, somehow my salary has to be paid.

I've only owned the house for 4 months. First time with atmos. Guess I'm doing alright. Thanks for the input.

shite man, you realize how cold it has been?....compare that to what your electricity bill would be if it were over a hundred degrees every day for a few months and that will kinda put things in perspective...

How many gas lanterns do you have. A neighbor of mine put in a really nice gas lamp (the hoa mandates a gas lamp on each facade facing the street or golf course). His lamp, which was a five burner, ran him $90/mo and this was in 2001.
He turned his off, the hoa didn't specify that it had to be lit, just that you had to have one.
Look into this.

Stop trying to heat hot water. That will save you some money right there.

I'm on Evangeline Gas System, my latest bill was right around that.
"Normal" winter weather it's usually around $75 per month. In summer it's usually around $35.
We only use gas for Central Heat and for the water heater.

I have Atmos even billing. $50 a month every month. 2000 sq ft, w gas heat and water heater. Warm months when the heat isn't running I use around $17 worth of gas to heat water but bill is still $50. Winter months when heat is running I use $80-100 but bill is $50.

This past November I completed a huge backyard project that includes a heated pool/spa, full outdoor kitchen, decorative fire rings, and a fire pit. There are also 3 large gas lanterns.
I decided to test all functions of the pool/spa and kitchen and also do a quick "break-in".
I ran the pool heater (400k btu), the grill (500k btu), the side burners (100k btu), and all other accessories for 72 hours straight in early January. I actually got the pool and spa to simultaneously maintain 104 degrees!!
The 3 water heaters, central heat system, stove, dryer, and front of house lanterns are all also gas.
The bill was not as high as I thought it would be--$748. I was honestly expecting over $1k.
On a good note, everything works as designed!

Well, you're wasting energy on things like outside lanterns and heating hot water, so there's that.

I am not sure if you know, but hot water heaters maintain hot water most of the time. Put your hand in 120+ degree water and tell me it in cold
Based off of what they do, a hot water heater would be a correct terminology

Gas lanterns run about $20 a month to run. I put mine on a switch and it cut my bill in half.

The one thing I learned a long time ago. Was that even if you cut off all utilities and use nothing the whole month. The utility companies will still charge you something. Sucks I know. And to the original poster, I will pay you atoms bill. You can pay my $400 plus Cleo bill for me!
