Now that the weather is starting to cool, would like to do a tour in the Atchafalaya Basin - tour the basin and hopefully the kids can see some gators. Anyone taken a tour in the Basin? Recs?

Just drive on the basin, youre guaranteed to sit on there for hours. Just get out and check out the scenery.

unfortunately, I don't have a rec for swamp tours...but I can tell you a route to drive throught he marsh south of Lake charles that has a cajun visitors center and a ton of alligators laying all over the shoulders of the road and in the ditches...

unfortunately, the hotter it is, the more alligators you will see, so don't wait long...

We went two weeks ago out of Henderson . We first had lunch at Pats which set the mood for the tour. Went to Basin Landing about a quarter of a mile away. The airboat holds ten people at $40/per. Captain Kirk was our guide, pretty cool old man. Brought us to an area with about a dozen gators. The gators know the routine. Came right up to the boat for feeding time. They are lowering the Henderson Swamp to kill the vegetation choking out the fish population. The water was very low. A good bit of our ride was over mud flats which was kinda of cool. About a 90 minute to two hour trip. When the tour was over we hung out at the Turtle Bar at the landing and had a few beers. It's a authentic old swamp/Cajun bar to "pass a good time" which we did. It's a good way to spend an afternoon. We had some friends from Virginia that were awe struck about the whole south Louisiana culture.

Consider Lake Martin. It's very pretty and there's lots of gators and birds there. It's a great place to spend the day. I did a tour there and even being from louisiana thought it was awesome.

The basin is really low right now. When do you want to go?
