AT&T institutes Caps on all Residential Internet Data Use IMPORTANT BEWARE!

On May 23, AT&T began implementing data restrictions for residential customers on their home Internet service. Depending on the plan, U-Verse customers will face caps of 300 GB, 600 GB, or 1 TB. AT&T says previously unlimited service now costs an additional $30 a month but in actuality my $65.00 a month for 45 mbps will increase next month to $189.00 a month. If you currently are paying $45 for 18 mbps and have some security camera systems the price will also increase to $189.00!
AT&T Internet Data Cost Calculator If you have a smart TV and watch 2 hours of HD TV a day you will see your bill more than triple in July. If you have HD home security cameras you will now be billed for 1 TB of data usage.
How AT&T estimates:
The examples below provide a general guideline for the amount of data used for each activity:
Activity Data Size
1 email (no attachments) 20KB
1 email (with standard attachments) 300KB
1 min. of surfing the web 250KB (15MB/hr)
1 song downloaded 4MB
1 photo upload to social media 5MB
1 min. of streaming standard-definition video 11.7MB (700MB/hr.)
1 min. of streaming high-definition video 41.7MB (2500MB/hr.)
1 min. of online games 200KB (12MB per hour)
Keep in mind that these examples are just estimates based on typical file sizes. Your usage may vary. **
1MB = 1,000KB approximately
1GB = 1,000MB approximately
1TB = 1,000GB approximately

Such a bunch of bullshite.
This was always going to happen though. I think it sped up due to people cutting the cord.
They have to make up for the loss in revenue.

AT&T moving us backwards

Comcast did this 6 months ago. I stream all my TV so I hit the 300 GB cap during all three months of their grace period. Switching back to EPBfi was a godsend!
frick the big cable companies in their stupid crony capitalistic asses.

HA Some web pages are 10 MB alone. Look at The Verge home page.

The last email I received regarding this states,
'If you choose to bundle your UVerse internet with DirecTV or U-Verse-TV you will be provided an unlimited data allowance with a $30 value at no additional charge, as a benefit of bundling'
Are you saying this is incorrect?

120 hours of streaming HD puts you at the low cap.
3.8 hours per day, on a single device, gets to that cap.
What a joke!

These are the same clowns that started the practice of charging for data overages on cell service too.
The only thing worse is their customer service.

I was told yesterday that it is unlimited for Directv customers. If you're not a customer of both there is a cap.

According to Neflix Data use is calculated this way According to Netflix, using their “High” data usage setting runs through 3 GB per hour when streaming High Definition (HD) videos and 7 GB per hour for Ultra HD. The “Medium” setting only uses 0.7 GB per hour for a Standard Definition (SD) video.

We have increased your U-verse Internet data allowance. Now you’ll have an unlimited allowance ($30 value) because you bundled DIRECTV or U-verse TV with your Internet service.
I guess I'm ok for now

I guess I'll be that guy. You have people on here like CAD who want to be able to download/watch unlimited amounts of whatever they want whenever they want. What is so wrong with charging based on use, so long as they are not choking out certain items arbitrarily?

That's part of why I never cut mine. I know me being one person is squirting a water gun in the ocean, but if everyone has that mentality of cord-cutting, it becomes a tsunami.
If this results in faster speeds for everyone across the board, I'm all for it. No way we can all have 50 MPS + if everyone is streaming Netflix or watching HD TV constantly with no cable.
Until Google Fiber arrives nationwide, maybe that's what they gotta do. Cable subscribers have been shouldering a lot of the cost burden for a while now
