In other words, at what point would some filthy rich billionaire hire people to buy and fill out every possible lotto combination? I'm not sure the current jackpot is enough, but what would be enough?

quote:

There are 175.2 million combinations so, at $2 a play, you'll need to get to an ATM or your mattress and withdraw a little over $350 million to cover all possible draws. But even if you have that kind of money stashed away, there's a problem.

And then hope no one else has the winning numbers which means you have to split the jackpot with them....

Shortly before the point where he ceases to be an OT baller.

Yea, so what is the magic number? Or is no number profitable?

Could you use the 350 million in losing tickets cost to offset the gambling winnings to not have to pay taxes on most of the prize?

I always wonder how many previous lottery winners still play the large jackpots

Those odds have changed recently.

1 in 292 million. Absurd.

So, you pay $350M to win around $180-$200M? Seems about right.

Interesting read. Would be funny if someone tried to do that only to have to split the pot with 8 other people. You'd actually lose money.

The most ever split was 4 winning tickets and that happened only once, only a 1 ticket winner is the most common.

ETA: For a $300 million or more jackpot

..and when 4 people have the correct numbers, that $500 mil becomes $125 mil before taxes, and you just lost your arse off.

In fairness, you could probably save a few bucks by ruling out certain combos.

I don't care what your stats professor said, 1-2-3-4-5 Powerball 6 will never be a winning combo.

Chances are you'd split the 400m and taxes would rape you. Not worth it.

This would be my luck. Accidentally win the powerball and have to share it with 4 people.

You could say that for any combo

The problem is when the jackpot goes up, more people buy tickets. I would guess if it was several billion dollars than it might be worth it to buy all combos. And the odds of it getting that high are extremely low
