My mom's husband has a daughter who married a guy from Kentucky and then moved there. They live in a rural area near a small town. They are very conservative. Her and her husband has 3 kids. One 16 year old girl, One 12 year old boy and one 10 year old girl.

They came down a few weeks ago and my mom was telling me that she had law & order on the TV. And her step daughter asked her if she would turn it off when her kids come in. The only thing she allows her kids to watch, even the 16 year old, is the Disney channel.

She didn't want Law & Order on because it has storylines about rape, etc and she didn't want her kids to be exposed to it.

My first thought is... Wouldn't you want your 16 year old daughter to know what rape is and be more away of the real world? Those of you with teenagers, what do you allow your kids to be exposed to?

Did you just bump your own thread with zero responses?

You are a sad, sad, strange little man.

Oh wow.

ETA - to answer your question, well before you were out of fear they'll start bumping their own threads with no responses.

Way earlier than 16 to some extent. My wife and I have already started the conversation about boys and what dirty bastards most of us are with my 10 yr olds without discussing sex. I have a bad habit of letting 4 letter words fly from time to time too although I try not to do it. Usually followed with the obligatory "don't let me hear either of you say that"

No, but the girl didn't take it well, one of the boys was meh, and the other almost seemed happy. Gotta keep an eye that bastard.

Some kids ask some very serious questions. You're better off being up front with them. Varies from kid to kid.

Yep, and the parent(s) as well. Having my dad die as a kid it never crossed my mind to not be brutally honest with them about death. Life sucks sometimes.

Not even close to reality. When My daughter was little, all of the DC shows had the good looking young white girls pining for the good looking young black or Hispanic guy.

The white boys were fat, ugly, geeks, or just odd. It was an odd agenda for the DC to push so hard.

I let my daughter be little as long as possible except with safety concerns. We did answer all her questions in an age appropriate way.

Very young, but gradually and with guidance.

I've explained there are bad people out there to my kids since they were very young.

I never sheltered them at all and they are both very mature for their age because of it.
