Does this happen a lot where you work out?

I hear people all the time asking others about nutrition or different exercises like what they eat and how much and how to get bigger arms or whatever.

Do you ask people for advice in the gym?

It seems reasonable that if you are both in the gym you have at least the want to exercise in common. No reason not to strike up a conversation with someone. Lots of people are willing to help and I've gotten great workout advice from gym rats.

i dont like to talk to people at the gym, except my workout partner.

i overhear some of the douchiest conversations ever when i dont wear my earphones at the gym.

example:

Bro 1: "have you ever seen that movie transformers?"

Bro 2: "yeah, why?"

Bro 1: "because im gonna call you legatron... you are pushing mad weight on that leg press bro!"

I'm asked for advice on a fairly regular basis. Doesn't bother me bc I've never had someone interrupt me during a set. That would piss me off lol. Myself, I keep my earbuds in and hat low and don't pay attention to anybody else.

I do my absolute best to avoid any and all conversations at the gym. I keep my earbuds in, and head down to avoid eye contact. If i do make eye contact, i give a simple nod, and continue on my way.

Now that i think about it, people may think im super weird at the gym because of this

Depends on the gym. Of all the gyms I've been to the college gym is the strangest. Half have no idea what's going on and want help, while the other half the kids have their hat pulled down with ear buds hoping the novice kid doesn't ask for help.
Where do you lift, bro?

I don't wear headphones in the gym, brah. We can talk about my lats as I'm doing pullups with those 70 pound chains.

I would think you are normal. I don't go to the gym to chit chat, I go to workout and leave. There are a lot of senior citizens at my gym during the day that likely are just lonely and they will try to chat with you. I'm not completely heartless so I will take my earbuds out and chat for a few minutes with them, otherwise....I just want to be left alone.

I wouldn't know. I go to the gym to workout and I am in the zone while I am there.

I don't need any advice, especially from the "carry the largest duffel bag imaginable and a gallon of water everywhere I go" crowd.

I'm not trying to get pretty. I'm already pretty. I workout strictly for performance.

I don't ask, but I am asked often. Normally something along the lines of "how do I squat/deadlift/bench that much?"

"Start light and add 5 pounds more every time you're under the barbell" is the normal answer. They don't seem to like this answer as most people are looking for the quick fix, and are afraid of planning long term. So they go back to their leg press and never get any stronger.

yeah, they do this in the men's locker room too... except they are always naked. i dont necessarily like to make small talk with strangers, escpcially not naked old men blowdrying their balls.
