Asbestos Siding

So I bought an older home like 5 years ago and before closing they mentioned we had asbestos siding but assured it wouldn't be an issue unless we tore it out to do renovations etc...

Anyhow I had largely forgotten about it but we are having our bathroom re-done and when I got home from work today there was dust particles all over the house from where they had been tearing out the tile on the walls.

My question, and it may be a dumb one but oh well, is does having asbestos in the exterior siding have any relation to work being done to the inside house or is this nothing I should be concerned about?

You asked some pretty funny questions today.

Unless your interior walls contain asbestos, you should be fine.

As long as the siding hasn't been disturbed, you should be fine.

Had a lot of free time at work. Mind was working hard to come up with things to think about.

Have two small kids so didn't want to be bringing them home to a cancer zone.

Ahh, the joys of owning a older home.

I did a bathroom renovation a few years back and I encountered some asbestos hardi-board behind a tile wall.

However, the wall shared a wall with what was originally a garage, so the assumption was that it was used as a fire block. Anyway, as mentioned, as long as the asbestos isn't disturbed or broken, it's fine.

You just better hope they don't disturb the siding any. Not just because of the illness it can cause but also because of the fines you could be looking at.

I just did an estimate on an Asbestos roof and to replace the shingles it was going to be $52K including the permits and proper disposal. The roof would normally be about $15K minus that.

If it has that siding, I may have lead paint. Keep kids away from it.
