So you are all triggered because people are trying to show support by changing a picture when there's little else the can do?

Get over yourselves.

Full disclosure:
1. I don't have a FB
2. I haven't edited any photos and uploaded to the interwebs

I'm normally the guy who shits on people for following these dumb FB/Twitter/Instagram trends and trying to be trendy during a tragedy. That being said, I have absolutely no problem with this, and don't see why anyone else would.

Yeah, it's an ostensibly silly and ineffectual act to change one's picture to a French flag, or send a tweet in support of France. Does it change the world? No. But at the very least it shows solidarity, and that people are paying attention. Did it matter after 9/11 that people in other countries were hoisting American flags? Some will say "no, who gives a shite?" I disagree. It was nice to see people around the world show "support" even in that small way. You can't force people to be sincere, and small acts like that may not have a lasting effect, but that doesn't mean kind gestures, even if superficial, should be derided.

That entire show was hard to watch. Someone needs to tell him he's trying way too hard to be offensive. That and he's not funny

Posting pics of your meal or a somber looking pic of yourself is lacking complete awareness IMO.

To the generation of today, everything is about social media..so to them, it means something. But to people who remember what it was like before 1996, it's hollow.

(Disclaimer: Never subscribed to the FB)

FB to me is the equivalent of eating marshmallows for every meal.

T-D on the other hand is a private Ruth-Chris' tasting party.

Adding a French flag skin to your profile picture is a nice little show of support.

Posting a selfie of yourself in bed / gazing at the horizon or a photo of shitty wine and adding a token "praying4paris" hashtag is pretty fricking douchey.

Right. Most people understand that there's an obvious difference between the two things and I think it's disingenuous to lump together everyone's actions on social media and then criticize those actions.

I agree with this. Nothing wrong with changing your profile to the french flag. I would rather someone do that than not acknowledge it at all.

can you elaborate on this? You "would rather" someone acknowledge a tragedy vs not? Why? To know that he or she knows it happened?

It wasn't a joke but rather a statement he made and just because I agree with that one statement doesn't mean I have to find him funny.
