I love traveling though. And I actually don't mind airports either...assuming it's a decent airport though that has decent shops, variety of places to eat, a Starbucks, and at least one bar. (looking at you BR airport with your one shitty "café" after you get through security)
Same. Free Wifi and charging stations are also nice, though they're fairly uncommon from what I've seen. (MSY is good for those.)

I am a very nervous flyer. I know I have to fly as it's the most practical way to get places, but I would never fly again if I could help it.
This is me exactly. I'm consider a trip to seattle in november right now and I have already sorted out the 23 hour trip :P.
Most likely I will fly...but my hatred of it knows no bounds.

Not afraid at all. Have flown both commercial and military. Much more prefer military. Too much bullshite to deal with flying.

Can you post the statistics for 2014? TIA
I can assure you this is a typical year for Scheduled Air Travel in the US. "0" fatalities is exceptional. In any other year, fatalities/accidents are inconsequential. Put on your "reasoning hat". The media has you running scared. If you're a student of physics and/or statistics, you have to ask yourself why you're scared.

I'm planning to go visit my parents between Christmas and New Years and trying to decide if it's worth 3 days in the car in each way (I'll be off 12/25 - 1/2)...i'll probably just choose the 4 hours in the air each way

Flying doesn't bother me as it's the quickest way to get from A to B. Although I've flown to Germany twice and Afghanistan once and my patience had run out by the time I landed.

I have an idea. Before you get the job buy a cheap plane ticket and fly somewhere for the weekend. Then you can tell if it bothers you that much to where you need to turn down the job.

Good idea, but no fear of flying will keep me from doing what is necessary. Whether it be for my job or vacation, it will be something I learn to enjoy or I'll just deal with it.

The quality of flight attendants has taken a nosedive now that you can't fire people for being too old

If you are sitting in the back, wait your fricking turn to get off.
It fricking pisses me off to see some a-hole barging up to the front when plane comes to a hault.
In a hurry? Running late?
Guess what a-hole, so is everybody else.
Sit back, wait your turn and DWI.

fricking hate it. Not scared of it, but it just sucks.
Before 9/11 and even until 4-5 years ago it was a lot better IMO.
Seats have gotten smaller and more crowded. Airlines had to find ways to increase profits, so more seats and making sure every flight is full is the way they did.
Most of my flights are to Vegas several times a year. It is a 5 hour direct flight from Miami. I've gotten to where I pay the extra $70 each way for more leg room now which annoys me.
Security and lines are more of a pain than ever.
Just do not like flying anymore. Used to, not anymore though. Usually try and take a Benadryl at takeoff and sleep as much as possible on the long flights.

I used to fly airplanes for a living. Flying airplanes is second only to sex in my book. But being a passenger on an airline is one of the most annoying things in the world.

FWIW, if it is heights that you are afraid of, don't worry...I am fairly uncomfortable with heights and flying doesn't bother me at all...even when looking out of the window, I get no sensation at all of being up high...

charging stations are also nice
Just buy one of these and keep in your carryon bag. I use mine all the time even when I'm not traveling. Just nice to be able to charge my phone and NOT have to necessarily be near an electrical outlet to do. Great for camping as well.

Exact one I have. I can charge my phone 7 times off of one charge of the charger.

That's one thing that bothers me, I don't want to be tense and uneasy at the though of being at such a height
