I'm at the doctor's office and see signs all over advertising them. Doesn't seem like it'd be worth it.

If you have a deficiency, then injections are more helpful.

I used to get them when I was in college. Seems like a small energy boost at the time. Maybe it was just mental, but it seemed to work.

My dad was sick. They gave him those B-12 injections for 4 months and things got worse. Turns out he had leukemia. So.. i can tell you with certainty they don't help if you have leukemia.

I didn't read the whole thread so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but they cause leukemia.

They were a godsend for my exwife, who had a deficiency.
I think some try to pump them up as just an energy booster though.

I can tell you from personal experience that the pills are DEFINITELY not effective...cause I've tried them. Zero.

I take the B12 shots and I'm more energetic than I have been in years. B12 deficiency runs in my family and it is actually very common.

I am not a doctor. Personally, I think B12 injections are mostly hype. Unless you are not absorbing B vitamins from food then you are wasting your time.

My first outlook would be having a complete blood analysis done to determine low Testosterone, vitamin D3 Deficiency or iron deficiency. Especially low iron if you are older than 50.

If you have a deficiency (which most people shouldn't), then I dont see how they would be of much help. Unless you are older, vegan, have GI problems, or have pernicious anemia there is no need for b12 injections

A friend from my gym swears by them- she takes B-12 once a week combined with methionine, inositol & choline (lipotropics) and swears it helps her lean out for her fitness competitions. I researched it and it appears the jury is out on the efficacy of the four compounds combined but she swears by it (and looks great) and it appears to be the hot new gimmick at wellness clinics and spas.

B-12 & MIC injections

LINK

quote:

Methionine Inositol Choline (MIC) Injections, also referred to as Lipo Injections, are used to help release fat throughout the body by specifically targeting its primary fatty deposits, namely the stomach, inner thighs, neck, buttocks, hips, and underarms. Lipotropic, or fat burning substances include: inositol, which helps the liver remove fat; choline, which distributes cholesterol and prevents it from getting deposited in one part of the body; and methionine, which is similar to inositol, but also amplifies the combination. Injections can be administered up to twice a week, and vitamin B-12 is purported by practitioners and users to help accelerate metabolic processes, while creating a greater feeling of overall energy. Since lipotropics directly aid in the breakdown of fatty tissue, and are also closely related to B vitamins, when used together, they are thought to intensify each others' effects and are usually injected together as part of the same treatment injection cycle.

if injected, it works quicker by going into the bloodstream than taking a pill orally.

its also in huge doses.

I can see it working, for someone that is prepping for a contest, even a 1% improvement in performance due to any supplemental use is a significant difference.

clinically speaking a 1% difference may not mean so much.

In the absence of known, proven B-12 deficiency, you shouldn't take B-12 injections.

This same theme goes for the taking supplemental vitamins. Much of the food sold in the US is "Fortified" anyway, so the chances of a normal person being deficient in any vitamin or mineral is slim.

Extra doses of vitamins also super-charge some bacteria and parasites and can actually make some people in third-world countries worse. For instance, some people in third-world countries live with TB or other parasites in their body all the time. The body has come to a new homeostasis with these parasites and "starves" them of essential nutrients. They might kill them, but they are doing it slowly. Now some well-meaning missionaries come by and give them a dose of vitamins, and the people perk up, but so do the parasites, ultimately leaving the person worse off.

Here are some links to peruse.
