We always had homework but I don’t remember having so much like my son does. Anybody else’s kids have a lot of homework to do every night?

Yep. It’s a combo of lazy teachers, spending more time with “ wokeness” and the ever present need for building character (more important than anything).

Yes, my 1st grader spends a solid 45 minutes on HW every night. And that’s if she is cooperating. I’ve already complained, but I know it won’t help.

Because kids are stupid nowadays and need the extra work.

Yes, and that’s why we homeschool now
(I realize that’s not possible for everyone)

I did homework every night. But I was in advanced classes.

Still remember watching nitro and raw doing algebra homework.

It does seem like they have a lot more. And the directions/point of a lot of it seems less clear.

Depends on the school and grade. One of mine went through the same schools as his older sibling until this year. Neither had a ton of homework at lower grades. He switched this year, in 3rd grade, and there’s a ton more. None of it all that difficult but it has been an adjustment for us.

Not necessarily every night but there is a worksheet my daughter has to turn in at the end of each week to test handwriting skills. She is in pre-k.

It's to make sure they did some practice writing/recognizing the alphabet.

If not for this, how many kids are in front of an Ipad as soon as they get to the house?

Complain that kids are behind, but also complain that kids have "homework."
You gotta do some work to learn.

Im a teacher and I don’t even give homework. I know they won’t do it and it will only hurt their grade even more.

It’s a new age thing to teach less and assign more

I assign a fair amount but I give kids plenty of time to work on it in class. Like an embarrassing amount of time.

for me it’s not teach less as much as it is I find kids benefit more from being able to get more one on one help.

My kids barely have homework. Their schools are pretty much against it. Rich suburbia public school in Houston

Way less than I had in Katy ISD 20-30 years ago

You teachers across the country hurting to fill positions these days too? See my district begging for subs and not having positions locked down before the school year.

Said no Asian parent. And that’s why they continue to kick arse.
