Are giftcards the worst gift?

You buy a giftcard from a store, this occurs:
The store gets a interest free loan + average margin of their products
You get a "bond" with no interest, almost no liquidity, and looks like a douche as a gift giver.
Why is this a thing?

No, visa gift cards are the worst. Everything you just said PLUS you have to pay them $5 for it.

If you're a male, I could think of gifts that are worse than gift cards.

I love gift cards. They encourage me to buy stuff I probably wouldn't if I just got cash. Makes it more fun.
