Somehow, this seems to be a nightmare waiting to happen. Hope I never have to fly one of these cattle cars.

Sure but so is walking down the street. Western commercial air travel is the safest thing in the world. You can throw Emirates in there, too.

Business class in the A380 maybe me want to never land. Taking off was a little puckering, due to the amount of runway needed.

Large passenger jets are actually declining. The A380 and 747 has actually declined a lot in sales over the past several years. They're dying a slow death or will at least be relegated to back burner projects for niche routes.

Emirates is just one airline in the whole entire world that bases their business model off the A380 and that's it. If it wasn't for Emirates, the A380 production would be slowed down to a trickle or outright stopped.

Twin engined jets like the 777 and 787 are the future along with the A350 as well.

By the way, the 747 is my sentimental favorite. It's the GOAT engineering feat and it's dominated air travel for over 50 years and sold 1500 planes. No other airplane will come close to that.

Thats the future with Emirates... After they banqrupt all the world's airlines with their gulf subsidized airline, they will force u to fly in that tin can with 615 people...

From a passenger experience, that is no difference than United and American increasing their 777s to 10 abreast, or taking 787s with nine abreast.

The downside to the Gulf three (especially Etihad) is that it is the sub-continental shuttle. Every Indian, Paki and Bengladeshi you never wanted to sit next to for 15 hours.

On the plus side they are reasonably priced in the back cabin.

That picture is misleading, its not making the coach cabin any different, it is removing premium cabin space and adding more coach seating.

Airbus did however float the idea of going 11 abreast (3x5x3) over the wing spars (wider than the rest of the cabin). The idea being that adding more passengers will decrease unit costs to make it more competitive with the 777-300ER on more routes. The 777-300ER is generally considered to have the best unit cost performance of any widebody on flights longer than 5,000 nm

Air China's 300er is a great long haul ride compared to some of the others I have been on. 3-3-3 in the cheap seats and really decent leg room. I can fly out of Little Rock for less than $1300 most any day.

I've crossed the pond on a 747-400, 767, A330, and once on a narrow body 757. The jumbo 747-400 seems to do it significantly faster, quieter, and more comfortably than the other planes. I'm really disappointed that 4 engined jets like the 747-8i isn't selling well. The hump makes it an iconic and especially pretty plane.

At airports with a lot of international traffic like CDG, the twin engine Boeing 777 seems to be the most popular big jet right now. It's not a jumbo, but it's still a massive plane that's actually longer than the 747-400 and the A380.....so I wouldn't say that large planes are on the decline so much as 4 engine jumbos are.

emirates a380s are really nice to fly in, especially when you are stuck on one for 16 hours. the screen is nice (bigger than the 777 ones) and they have a ton of shows/movies. leg room is really good (probably an inch or two more than on a 777). i've flown on both the 777 and a380 on trans atlantic flights, and i prefer the a380s.

but i'd sure as hell take any emirates flight over any american airline carrier

as a side note, an emirates pilot i know says he prefers flying the 777, says they get way less mechanical / electrical issues than the a380s.
