I would say not completely...but figure some folks are more prone genetically and no matter how great the parents are will have them. What say the all knowing OT?

Nature vs nurture

It's a combination of both.

But wouldn't you say some are directly related? Why you hating? Parents don't hug you?

Yeah this is like the first chapter of pyschology 101. Lots of variables here.

Definitely a combination but I've always been of the opinion that nurture is the more important part. Good parenting can go a long way with most kids in developing them into a hard working, contributing citizen.

Bad or lack of parenting is often hard for a kid to overcome based on the habits they develop and domino effect it has on each stage of their life.

I have a cousin who is extremely smart (once majored in PETE at Texas A&M). He is bipolar which is only exacerbated by his shitty parents. Poor kid never had a chance.

frick no. A person's "issues" are 100% directly related to them and no one else. You make out of life what you want.

You're a fricking moron. Do you really think that a kid born in the ghetto to a single parent, abusive crack whore is at the same starting line as a kid who has two intelligent, moral and loving parents who live in a above average school district?

Starting line? No, of course not. But there is literally nothing stopping that ghetto kid from deciding he wants to better himself, and doing his homework, making good grades, getting into a good college, getting a good job, etc.

Your successes or failures in life are 100% because of yourself. Nobody else.

Most people born into the situation you describe flouder around and don't amount to shite, because they think that's what they're supposed to do. But if that same little poor kid put his mind to wanting to escape that life, there's nothing stopping him from doing so.

I believe nurture plays a larger role than nature in that debate but there always going to be events that our parents had no part of that influence who we become.
