Looking to go on a big trip within a year and was wondering if it would be worth it to use a travel agency or not.

Super convenient just cost a little more. I plan on using one when we go to Europe.

Depends on the complexity of the trip and how much work I feel like putting into it.

I used one for our honeymoon and do not regret it. We were going to multiple locations: over 4. Taking flights, rail, and car. A couple tours. I could have done it all myself, but I had other shite to deal with and it's a damn honeymoon; not meant to be stressful.

We had a great one. And I recommend her as often as I can. We don't like staying in "popular" hotels. We like B&B types that have that personal feel but don't sacrifice service. She took care of us. No ragrets.

Really just depends on where you are going. They can be very helpful if you are going overseas to a place you have never been to.

It's an awesome feeling stepping off the plane in your honeymoon location and knowing that you don't have to worry about anything cause someone else took care of it for you already isn't it?

We still use a local one when we go abroad. Google all you want but you'll have better peace of mind, at least I do, getting the info you need from an actual talking human you can trust. If you have a good relationship with a legit travel agent it's worth your while. Unless you're going to Kansas, the Gulf Coast or some such. Then just google.

Yep. It's just like you said too. It was overseas. And if you get a good one, they can be helpful with things other than just accommodations and travel. Depending on the country, they can help with currency exchange, local customs, etc.

I've never used one inside the US though.

I do for work. No idea how much it costs, but it's nice. All I do is tell them where I'm going, when I'm going, and when I'm coming back. Everything else gets handled.

Renting houses in foreign nations especially the Caribbean, yes. If I end up in a shanty town and my life or possessions are at risk, I want someone to be held accountable if I'm lucky enough to make it back. It sets your mind at ease if you are renting a private property on say, Roatan or a place like that, if your agent had dealt with the property before.

It's more fun to create your own adventure, based off of researching said location, via the Internet. Save that extra for business class upgrades.

we just did recently for the first time.

Riviera de Maya doesn't have any good packages with flight. so we booked it with the travel agent and used our SW Airlines card which made the flight free. came out to $2000 total for 2 people at a higher level resort

They are free and can get cheaper deals than you can sometimes. I use them for all international travel, then try to beat their quote on my own. Most of the time I can match but they'll throw in free travel insurance or a free tour or special dinner usually.

I like to do my own research to narrow it down to a specific resort first though. Otherwise they push their agenda on you.
