Marcello was basically a shark amongst guppies. He basically had the entire region to himself and was a card carrying member of the 5 families. Him and that dude in Miami (Santo Traficante I think was his name) basically had Carte Blanche and only had to kick back minimal cash to the families on the East Coast.
And this was when the Italians had everything. There was no Russians, Asians with real power and the drug cartels hadn't really taken off yet. They were dem boys.

Not sure anymore but everything that was mob related and east of the Miss. River ran through NY. Everything west of the Miss. River was Chicago's.

i graduated with a guy who was SUPER smart. Top 2 in our class, just very intelligent. 7 years later he was arrested in what became the biggest meth ring in the state. He was the number 1 man, the ring leader. He had cartel ties, and had a ring of crime from mexico, texas, ms,la, and florida. Had a couple homes, several cars, tons of weapons. And was a rea life walt from breaking bad. Now doing like 50 years

A couple years ago or so they found that assassin's van in NOLA that belonged to a couple made guys in the mob. That thing was outfitted to carry out one mission and one mission only and that was to blow someone's brains out. Pretty crazy to know that was still going on.

My dad's company painted a house for a "connected" guy back in the 80's. There was one room in the house that we were told not to enter under any circumstances. I asked the guy's kid who was about my age what the deal was and he said he didn't know, the same rule applied to him and his father wasn't someone that people disobeyed.
The guy was "rumored" to be hooked with the N.O. group.

I've been in Houma 37 years and never heard of the Triads. I know there are some connected families. How connected and to what extent I'm not sure.

Are you talking about the Cournoyer's?

quote:Oh yea, there was definitely a connection with Marcello and NYC families. I read the reason the Marcello family didn't prosper past Carlo's reign was that he was very conservative with promotion. There were no made men for like 30+ years or something like that. Once Carlos was gone it had dwindled down to almost nothing.
Yeah, I thought there was some connection between NYC and NOLA through Gambino and Marcello if the stories I heard had any truth to them.

I married one. My wife worked for the Teamsters in Chicago.

The one I'm talking about dabbles in real estate. However, I've heard they were connected too.

I know a few State Legislators and Congressmen. That counts.

A frat friend's dad was one of the biggest bookies in N.O. and it was his job , as a 20 yr college student, to walk up to one who was late in making payment & telling the dumbass, "why don't you pay my dad? The next guy will meet up with you carrying a baseball bat to use in knee surgery." Saw this happen twice in person. His dad was more than well connected, and one of his uncles ran the horse/mule carriages in the Quarter up until the hurricane. There was a very good reason none of those animals drowned, as they were gotten out of the city early.
