This may sound stupid, but (although I don't call it meditation) one thing I do, kind of a reflection and context thing, is think focusing on what I was doing, what was going on in my life, etc., in five years increments going back, usually stopping at around high school age. Kind of helps you memorialize the things you've enjoyed, bad things overcome, ways things have gotten better, and if they haven't maybe ways to help them do so.
