They mess with electrical as they like going to warm places.
They get together and short it out.
Here people are saying they miss the fire ants, because they at least stayed to their mound.

There was a thread on this a while back. They were in eighteen parishes then, there's no telling now

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth..
Safe around people and pets.. Fatal to ants..
Supposedly ants cannot develop any sort of resistance to it. I use it around the house with success but it usually takes 48 hours or so for it to really kick in..
I just wanted to come back and tell you thank you for this recommendation. I purchased a 20# bag of this stuff on Amazon and spread it around the office. Its been 6 days and no sight of these little bastids anywhere arou d the building. Now, they are at the edges of the parking lot still but they really seem to be staying away.
I used the dusting method to apply this stuff. Says its great for killing fleas and roaches as well.

If it's great for fleas and roaches I'm sure there are some posters that could use it in their homes

Termidor or Taurus (generic brand, fipronil). You basically need a good nonrepellant. I've had them at a few accounts and that's the only thing I've found to stop them.
These ain't the sugar ants where terro or baits work. These are little fing monsters lol.
Eta: just read op dates, meh

Update.
Diatomacious earth lasted about a week. Now the little fricks are snorting it like cocaine.
They have taken over the entire city block here were our office is.
The sheer number of them is frightening. They have taken over all of the fireant beds though so that's not a bad thing.
Not real sure where to go next.Guess they're here to stay
