Anyone here gone back for an Executive MBA?

It's been almost 20 years since I graduated from LSU. And looking at my career path, I am considering going back for an executive MBA here in Houston (A&M, Univ of Houston, Others)
Anyone done this? Was is worth it?
I was never a great student but my motivation back then was just to get out of school and start making money. So I am a bit nervous about not being up to par academically.
Also thinking about hitting up my employer to help with some (or all) the expense.
Obviously coming to the OT for this advice is one indication of my poor judgement, but what the hell.

Go for a traditional MBA, rather than an executive MBA. I've known C-level managers that looked down on the executive MBA "shortcut".

Interesting as I always thought and Executive MBA would be better than a traditional. I am currently looking to pair one up with my BS in Electrical Engineering.

It really depends on your industry. Some don't care at all if you did executive, online, or full time. Some don't care about where you did it. They just want that box checked
But some industries do care

I have a PhD from several online universities.
My company doubled my pay and I also work for a Pyramid type insurance company and Retailer.
Soon I will be a gazillionaire!

Just get a worthless PMP certification . People think way to highly of that one

I don't think it states on the diploma whether it was executive, online, part time, or full time. It just says MBA.
He is talking about going to an actual college like UH or A&M not University of Phoenix.

Getting my EMBA was a great decision. One of the best things about the EMBA is the people you attend with. I learned as much from the other professionals in the class as I did from the professors.

I did a regular M.B.A.over 20 years ago. Best decision I ever made. I learned more in that program than all undergrad. The undergrad seemed useless after the M.B.A.

I have a M.Ed and my boss said he would pay for my MBA but he said it honestly won't progress my career faster than where I am now.
In my field, a CSP/ASP is weighted much higher than a masters.

When would he ever pull out the diploma on a job interview?
He will need a resume and from that it will be very clear if he completed a full-time or executive/part-time program.

What's best for your career isn't necessarily what's best for your current boss. I'd really question someone who is discouraging me from taking a free education - especially a free MBA. Hopefully you are getting career advice from more than 1 individual.

I'm currently in an online MBA program. I am looking to increase my earning potential after I retire from the military in a few years. From the research I've done, a masters will make a difference. We'll see. It can't hurt.
I will say this.... Online is pretty damn difficult. I always looked down on online degrees, but they aren't easy. I've changed my tune.

Those that have never done online study seem to have the idea that you just watch some online material and answer some questions. My son is doing a online MBA, the amount of time he spends online is just a fraction of the time required to complete the work. He says it is just as challenging as his undergrad engineering courses.

When I say traditional I'm not speaking of online, brick and mortar, full time or part time. EMBAs usually do not require applicants to take the GMAT, they only require an undergrad degree and work experience. Traditional MBA carries more weight in some circles than does an EMBA.

Full-time MBA is for people who don't have a strong enough undergrad degree to get a good paying job.
Professional & Executive MBA's are for people with real jobs that want to advance in their career.
Online MBA's aren't worth it as you don't get the personal interactions with other professionals and executives.

I framed my degree and fastened a necklace to each corner. I wear it around my neck and people really listen to me when I talk.
I feel like E F Hutton.

EMBA alum here...
If there's any negative about the EMBA it's the additional cost as opposed to a traditional. In the end the employer does not care which route you chose.
On the plus side, the EMBA generally surrounds you with established and emerging business leaders and affords you a level of networking you'll never achieve in the traditional MBA classroom. To me this is where the real value in the EMBA lies.

I wouldn't say he is discouraging it, as he offered to pay for it. But he says with my current masters, he doesn't think a new one will be as beneficial as it would be for someone without it.
