Just got my first barn find. When I was younger I had a 67 mustang, but I bought it complete.
Just got a old cadillac that hasnt seen the road since 1973.
It's solid other than it was vandalized by neighborhood punks. So there is a broken windshield and some foot sized dents in it.

I know I've been watching too much gas monkey, but I wanted a project car.
Plus 1960 with factory air, and power everything.
Paint a 0/10 but no cancer.

Number matching engine that turns over with a breaker. A nice 390.

So I'm looking for tips on good upholstery people, good chrome people and I would like any recs on a car hauler.

Would like to have car done in two years or so.

I really want a Model A, but I started looking for 1970s coup de villes, then a 60 showed up cheap.
Actually the cheapest listing on Hemmings.

Are you going to do a frame-off resto?

Last night when you said you were looking at an old car, I was wondering how it turned out....guess this answers my question!

glad you got yourself something to play with, as I am sure that you will enjoy it. as someone who has restored a couple of old sports cars, just go ahead and accept the fact that you are going to spend a lot more than you think you are and that no one will ever pay what you have invested in the car when you get ready to sell it. get past that and you are going to have a ball!

ETA: to answer your original question, I would recommend some guys in Alexandria called Select Motor Company...I used to mess with muscle cars with them a lot when I was young and I have seen them turn out some damn sweet work through the years.

When I lived in New Hampshire (76-77) I had an opportunity to buy a '57 Packard Carribbean like this...same color scheme. $3800 IIRC. Beautiful condition.

But it was a Packard. Parts.

Yeah, I regret.

I had a old fiat spider as a kid in college, eventually trans went out (std) and later engine threw a rod. My brother and I (he was the lead) rebuilt engine, transmission and eventually sanded the body and repainted a different color as well as replaced the interior

I've been doing this all my life, if you have a budget expect it to go over if it's a 2yr project expect longer but in the end the car and memories are amazing, good luck

As already mentioned, you will spend more, it will take longer, and you will not recoup that investment.

Understand this going in, and it's can be an enjoyable hobby. It's great bonding time with a son or father.

I restored a truck in High School with my dad. Drove it for a couple years in HS and college.

Sounds like you found a decent project though. Have fun.

this is why I almost think I should just get it running and sell it. I have $700 in it so far, then $150 for a flight and $60 for a rental car. Shipping quotes are between $275-400.
The only other car like this I found in similar condition had no engine and no glass and was $3k more.

Just being a four door and a six window makes it worse less.

I can't decide yet. It is a car a like. The frame is solid as are the floor pans. So I may not take the body off the frame. I am tearing down a wall in my garage now to accommodate. Bye Bye man-cave/ small appliance workshop.

Dude the straight 8 is one of the best early engines of all time. It's smoother than the majority of modern cars.

I really really want a late 30's packard.

I was in the airport yesterday and some Jay Leno clip came on with a black dude explaining old car prices. They showed a 67 Mustang convertible and said worth $48,000.

Yeah I sold mine in 1998 for $5500 and felt like I got a deal as I only paid $3500 for it.

I've done a few, I'm an upholstery guy by trade, but I've done all of it on 1 car/truck or another...

I prefer restomodding...modern creature comforts

Done a few always takes longer than you think. And just remember you will never get your investment back

1000% this.

I've never done one personally but have a couple friends that have done multiple and they all say this. My dream car is a Ford Shoebox. I know what I plan to spend on it and I know I will never sell it so I'm cool with it. Don't do it to make money.

Bought a 1969 Cadillac from a little old lady in Austin, Texas. Boy was I dumb. Someone had removed the smog pump so the fan belt had no adjustment whatsoever. That fricker stretched, it broke and it was time to pull over. Kept multiple belts in my trunk (they didn't seem to cost all that much then). Finally figured out a workaround, but right before I sold it.

The Cadillac was used in a TV movie starring Heather Locklear which was filmed on the UT campus. My brother tried to sniff the back seats for that feminine mystique.

It was a fun car but definitely a novelty. Put a horn on it that played The Eyes of Texas and saw Barry Switzer on Mopac Freeway while he was coaching the Dallas Cowboys at Austin's training camp.

Blew the horn and he looked over and gave me a big "Hook 'em."

been doing a body off resto on a 68 Vette vert for almost 17 yrs

I'll finish it one day, money comes into the household on a conveyor belt, and hauls arse out the back door. Every once in a while I get to stick my hand in and spend money on it, but not often

Have one hanging in the barn right now, putting some paint on the frame this week if the weather holds out.
