I just filled out an application to adopt a dog ( Boston Terrier). I have a couple questions... How long does this process usually take? And do I get to meet the dog before I adopt him (rather than just seeing a picture). Thanks guys

you should mail the dog a pair of your boxers so he can get used to your scent.

We talking about from the pound?

They usually get back to you within a couple days. They then set up a meeting where you get to interact with the dog. They also generally send someone to your house (they warn you when they're coming) to inspect your property for obvious hazards (like gaps in fencing where dogs could escape, poisonous weeds growing in the yard, ect). From application to full adoption with the dog in your home, it generally takes around a week. Many will also do a trial period for a couple weeks, where you can see if the dog likes its new environment, giving the owner the ability to return the dog for a full refund within 2 weeks if it doesn't work out.

Depends on the place I guess. Mine was as simple as finding one I wanted then telling them that I wanted him, then filling out minimal paperwork and paying. It was easy.

Different adoption centers do things different. Often, they will bring the dog to your place and see how things go for a trial visit. Then you'll get the dog a little later.
Some agencies want to make sure there is a fenced yard/safe environment for the dog. Or if you have other dogs or cats, that they get along well enough.

If from a rescue group, it would be easier to adopt a baby than a dog.
They will want to know your life history. Come to your house and look at it to make sure it's safe. If you have other animals they may not let you adopt. It's a process for sure.

when I adopted mine the lady came out to the house to do an inspection then a couple of days later she met me at a PetSmart to drop the dog off. We didn't really have much of a chance to meet the dog save for the brief 10 minutes or so we talked at the PetSmart, but I'm sure everyone's experience is a little different.

A poster on here was bitching about getting rejected because of a lack of fenced yard.

Mine too, went to the pound picked the dog, filled out a few papers, paid like $100 and rolled out. No visits or pics sent. It was pretty easy.

Same here. Did get a few calls from the pound afterwards making sure I had fixed my dog though.

I don't think it will be a problem giving you have a dog park and Boston terrier is a smaller breed. As many of said different groups have different approaches to adoption. Some it's a matter of filling out paperwork and paying adoption fee, less than 20 minutes. Other groups may want to do a home visit to make sure it's a good situation for you and the dog. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I checked out dogs I liked online, went to the pound and picked one out, filled out some minimal paperwork and picked her up the next day after she got spayed.

We picked up a beautiful shepherd-mix pup from the local pound. Took about an hour.
