Just recently started looking into buying one of these. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of what they can/cannot do?

My sister has one and I am not impressed at all. Over Christmas I stayed at her house for a week watching her dogs and I tried to get into it but I couldn't. Its just a shittier version of Siri with a crappy speaker.

It doesn't do as much as one would think from the commercials. It's fun to play with at first but I forgot I had it after a few weeks.

You have to add the skills to it via the app. It doesn't come preloaded with everyones crap they'll need. It takes 2 seconds to enable a skill.

For the OP, the bluetooth speak alone almost makes it worth it. I use it for music and random questions. The shopping list is legit as well. I use it most for home automation though. i.e. turning on/off lights, locks, thermostat, and controlling my home entertainment system.

We have one. Use it to play music when people are over, I have it give me the forecast most mornings when I walk thru the living room. Use it to control some lights and a fan in the house.

Nothing absolutely necessary, but we use it every day.

The speaker is pretty great for a bluetooth device that size IMO. It has both a sub and tweeter
