Anyone have a clever response to "How are you?"

This exchange always bothers me when passing people in the hall that I do not interact with regularly.
Is there a better response than "Fine, how are you?"

If someone asks "How's it hanging?", I usually cant help myself but answer "Like a whistle, wanna blow it?"

Not trying to be a smart arse. I'm seriously trying to make this exchange to seem less superficial than it is. 9/10 times the person asking really doesn't care how you are really doing.
