What caused it? Has it been resolved? If not how long has it been going on for?

Fortunately for me I have a good one with my mom and stepdad (they got married when I was 4 and he is my daddy for all practical purposes).

Now my real father, he'd like to think we have one but if you ask me we don't. I'm 47 and he left before I was born so pretty much always and I see no end to it.

Eta what Caused it? He cheated on my mom when she was pregnant (ok and before then) and left before I was born. I pretty much have no feelings for him at all .. I often wonder what my reaction will be when he dies.

My father was a piece of shite alcoholic. Mom finally divorced him when I was 16. I never spoke to him again, even though he lived less than 5 miles from me. He died when I was 40. I told his sister to do whatever she wanted with him. She had him cremated and i didn't even inquire as to where the ashes were. He never remarried and didn't have a will, so by law I got his crap. I sold all his shite and ended up with about 150k in my pocket. Took some vacations with my family and paid off my mom's house. frick him!

Damn. You have kids of your own? Did it affect your relationship with your kids at all?

No. Only thing he ever taught me was how to be a good father, opposite of him. My mom remarried a great guy when I was about 21. As far as my kids are concerned, my stepdad is their pawpaw. My oldest now knows the truth and understands why I never spoke to him.

We are all hard headed as frick, and nobody gets along... I think they hate me for being me and not being what they wanted... tbh

Nope. Probably never will

Never had a bad relationship with them, just was never really close to them.

Lately that has changed drastically.

Never knew my real mom..my stepmom took care of us for the most part, but she never loved me and my brother like her own..felt like outsiders growing up and I don't feel like she has much interests in being in our kids lives now after my dad passed a couple years ago...no hatred towards her..I'm just indifferent.

Not really. Dude never put the bottle down for me throughout my entire childhood. He never laid a hand on me, but I had to hear his shite in the middle of the night on a fricking Tuesday when he'd come home drunk, screaming at my mom like some white trash trailer park bullshite. frick that shite. I'm now a college graduate, married to an awesome woman going on 22 years and have 2 kids I'd go to the ends of the earth for. I couldn't imagine what I'd do if they wouldn't speak to me. Him on the other hand, never even attempted to reach out to me, never attempted to meet my wife or his 2 grandchildren. Luckily I had 2 awesome uncles that took on the role of father, teaching me all the shite he never did. I know alcoholism is a disease, but you gotta at least try to get your shite together at some point, at least 1 fricking time. All this blood is thicker than water crap is bs. If you're a piece of shite, I'm done with you, period.

My "father" was like slim's, what I remember was him slamming mom's head against the kitchen cabinets when I was around 4. I was in 7th grade when he died. My mother put salt peter in my food when I was living with her. Her also burned candles on pictures of my wife and step daughter. She died a couple of years ago. I don't know why I'm not more screwed up then I am. To all of you that have good relationships with your parents - don't take it for granted - they won't be here forever.

Why? If it was to make you impotent, I hope you realize that is a myth.

What happened with the flood? I know they lived near my mom. She ended up with 3 feet in her house. My brother and I busted arse for 3 months and she has been back in her house for about 3 weeks now. Maybe the only person in her neighborhood back whole

That's what I was told. When I found the box in the cabinet I just stopped eating anything she cooked.

2 feet in trailer, truck flooded to air vents.

I relocated them to Phoenix to be near me. They moved to AZ in November. My dad found a used minivan last month and is closing on a used mobile home in Glendale, AZ(about 35 minutes away from me) next month. They are currently staying with my aunt(that also lives in Phoenix).

i'm close with my dad but he disappoints me because he never attempts to speak truthfully to my mother, who i don't speak to.
