Well, I had a setback earlier this week.

I had been able to open my mouth a bit wider, talk better, and raise my right eyebrow a little bit.

On Tuesday, I had the most awful headache I've had in a while. Took a couple oxy's, went to bed, and woke up Wednesday all feverish and with chills. Once the fever broke, I noticed that all the progress I had made was gone. Back to square one. No movement whatsoever. Speech noticeably impaired. On the bright side, the debilitating headaches are now gone.

If I end up looking like GC's arse, I'll consider it an improvement.

Update, 2 months in:

Still not much improvement. Have seen a neurologist (who looked like he was barely 35--a kid), and he was not very encouraging. Scheduled an MRI, put me on anti-virals just for the hell of it ("what can it hurt?").

Looks like I'm stuck with this for the long haul. Might start looking into alternative treatments (acupuncture, etc.).

Right side of my face is still swollen a little (like I got hit in the mouth). Can't use much of anything on the right side of my face. Face isn't as sore and tender as it was for the first month or so.

This blows chunks.

It is definitely an inconvenience, but there are people out there who have much worse things wrong with them than this, so I try not to bitch about it too much.

Sounds like a heckuva rollercoast you're riding.

From what I understand, the symptoms can improve suddenly.

Hopefully you'll wake up one day with in a vastly improved condition.

I had it my Senior year of college. Had an ear infection over Christmas break, came back to school with Bell's. It lasted about a month, and the doc kept me full of steroids the whole time. Sucked pretty bad.

My neighbor had it . He looked like fricking Marty Feldman all Summer. Gone now though so theres that for you.

Kim Mulkey got it a couple days before the National Championship game so she was on full display.

The alternative methods were very helpful for me fo nothing more than the mind over matter effect. Good luck. Had it twice on opposite sides of the face !

Good luck man, hope it turns around.

My dad had it in his early 30s and it went away in a few months.

Sister and I both had it. She got better naturally after a few months. I got better as soon as I started the anti-viral (first doctor only put me on steroids--no effect). But I noticed a positive change a few days after I started the anti-viral, and it was completely gone a few weeks later. Hang in there

I had one when I was 5 that paralyzed one side of my face. My parents were terrified because my oldest brother had been diagnosed with a brain tumor at the same age and that had been one of the symptoms. It healed, but my smile is still a little asymmetric.

Eventually you'll get past this. Had a friend stricken with this a couple years ago. It takes some time. Keep on battling.
