I've had a Surge since April. Overall, I like it.
My boss had gotten the Charge HR and I was interested, but I was actively avoiding the smart watch thing because I felt like the battery life on them was terrible. Plus, I don't need to be able to text and talk and all that nonsense from a watch. I wore a chest strap to the gym every day and that was getting old so I started reading reviews on them. The general feeling I got about them was that they were good as long as you slowly built up your heart rate and sustained for a while, but the people that did interval training weren't super impressed with it's ability to adjust to rapid peaks and valleys in heart rate.
I ended up mentioning it to my wife and she got one for my birthday. I didn't think I would like it but I decided to give it a shot and I was pretty happy with it after about a week. The app syncs with LoseIt! where I track my calories and it usually stays alive for 3 or 4 days at a time. If you run a lot, you'd probably use the GPS though, which drains the battery pretty fast. If you swim, don't get this one. It's "sweat proof" but not water proof. With a new baby, the silent alarm in the morning to get up for my workouts was almost worth it in itself.

I just got mine a few days ago.
The battery life for mine is 2 days as opposed to five

I've got a Surge too. Been wearing daily since about March, no rash. I don't run any great distances, but do like the large face and constant time/date display. It's probably more than I need, but since it was basically free (I used my company's $300 Christmas gift card to buy it) I chose to get it instead of the Charge HR.
I do wish it had a regular stopwatch cause I use it to keep track of my output while officiating ball games.
