What does it mean when there are 5 earthquakes greater than 3.0s in the last 24-36 hours? LINKWe just got hit with another one about an hour ago. About 2 weeks ago this happened. How big do this things have to get to cause a tsunami?

Well f**k my anus and call me Jenny. Just got an email about tsunami warning in case this biotch. Glad I decided not to go to school on Grenada, but I don't like this earthquake and tsunami shite when I live on a 30 sq mile island.

typo. I meant mile.

St. Maarten. We are under moderate risk of a tsunami if that volcano erupts but seeing how my apartment is on the ground floor and the only thing that seperates me from the ocean is a 10-15 foot cliff.

I live in Washington State. They all suck. The End

Seriously though, Earthquakes are probably one of the weirdest things you'll ever feel. I've gone through several, the largest being the 01 earthquake. I live in an old craftsman home that still has scars from the 49/69/2001 quakes.

St. Helens just plays "fooled you again", Rainier is a ticking time bomb, and Baker/Adams just slumber quietly.

Tsunamis? Played that drill last month. Everything on the coast is gonna get wrecked and wrecked hard in this part of the PNW.

The one that freaked me out was the 6.3 two weeks ago and the tsunami warning afterwards.

There are specific events within an earthquake that cause a tsunami. Mainly uplift, which doesn't necessarily occur with every earthquake.

I wouldn't worry about earthquake swarms unless you're near an active volcano. Then, I'd worry like hell.

The big earthquake will be in the Pacific Northwest in the Seattle, Portland, Vancouver area not the San Andrés like people think. I was in a 6.9 on Christmas eve in Costa Rica at 1:00 in the morning back in 2004. It scared the shite out of me and was 20 seconds long but felt like forever. It was a little shake then I thought it was over then booooom rocked us hard. That is the only thing I don't like about going to Costa Rica because I can never get used to them especially at night

Grenada is 678 km away according to google and the volcano is about 8 km off the shore of grenada. Over the weekend the volcano threat level was upgraded to orang and we were given a tsunami safety drill because we are in the line of fire. The volcano was downgraded to yellow on tuesday because of 48 hours with no seismic activity but we have had 5 earthquakes in the St. Maarten area and all were above 3.0 and the whole caribbean had 30 today after not having any for the last 48 hours.

ETA: and if invest 94L develops it will be heading my way. My email inbox looks like dooms day with 5 emails about earthquakes, a tsunami warning, daily updates about a volcano, and now to monitor a potential tropical weather threat. Now I know why the locals drink so much rum.

An earthquake would have just made my island the worst place on the face of the Earth. Glad I never had to go through that. The entire dump shut down for at least three days when the tropical storm rolled through last fall. I can only about imagine how much chaos would have ensued if an earthquake hit.

So glad I'm off that desolate waste of space

I think it's more the direction of the shake than the size. An up/down flop makes a lot bigger wave than a side-to-side shake.

Would think that several smaller ones are a good sign: releasing the energy in smaller doses.

Move to Shreveport and you'll be fine.

It was a cat 1 and probably a cat 2 when it hit St. Maarten last year and it tore the island especially the french side up something fierce. Nevis got hit by the 3.8 today. It was nothing more than 20 seconds of wtf was that but tsunami preparation shite is starting to get me worried.

I got one year from tom and I will be able to leave this place behind. I have a love-hate relationship with the caribbean.

Well damn, I never saw anything on fb about it. I learned of y'alls through a friend at your school on fb.

My friends left on the island are now denying they had one

Mine was all hate. Other than the education I got, I could care less for anything and anyone on that dump. Eveyone hated the students. They constantly tried to rip us off. Anywho, thats a story for another day
