In 32 years, my family has probably not cut our own trees maybe twice. We usually go to a place in Orange, TX, but this year went to a farm in Pearl River.

I put up n artificial tree after Thanksgiving and the Forest Svc. allows us to cut one tree, which I do about two weeks before Christmas. So I have both. It's not a lot of work, trees are easily accessible on the road system.

Here's a list of all the farms in St. Tammany... The one in Bush is easy to find right off Hwy 1083 maybe 15 minutes from Covington.

We did it every Christmas when I was a kid growing up in North Louisiana. One year my brother and I actualy found one in the summer, marked it and cut it down in December in time for Christmas.

we'd go cut a small, young cedar tree from the pasture somewhere ...

As kids we would take off and go find one in the woods. Sometimes pine ones.

To me it's more special. Last year I had one growing on a fence line that was a cedar type and nice shape so I had family come with me and we cut it. Thought it would be more meaningful but they're teenagers so it was an attempt too late.

We used to when I was a kid. We'd just go out in the woods and cut down a cedar. It always looked like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
