Anybody ever been interested in a tiny house to be mortgage free?

My wife and I watched tiny house nation on fyi network and people are living in these tiny houses on wheels or tiny houses on land. They all said the same thing want to save money and be mortgage free. Majority spends $20,000-$35,000 paid off and are pretty plain and basic. The only way I could do it would be tall ceilings and 2 bathrooms and 500 sq ft living with luxury more modern style. For that style that tiny house would be $68,000-$80,000 with 15 year mortgage $530-$600 a month. That beats my $1425 a month I pay for right now. Then you have to find some land to put it on. That would be nice to be mortgage free and save slot of money especially with the way the economy is right now.
This is the only way I could do it.

Why not just buy a used double wide and be done with it? 10x the space and half the cost.

I suppose it's a balancing act of how much you are willing to suffer for not having a mortgage.
If you don't mind living in a tiny arse shack, then more power to you. I'll gladly pay my mortgage to live in my home, plus with the interest as low as it is, I should do pretty well in 15 or so years when I sell it.

It would be cool for a while... if I was single. I think I'd go crazy being in that close proximity to someone else for so long.

Actually a great option for many people

The idea of taking a shite and stinking up literally the entire house isn't very appealing to me. I'd end up killing my wife if I was in such close proximity to her all the time.

Just buy a cheaper house and 15 year it. 80k for a stupid tiny house? Nope.
Live below your means in a medium house.

Why not buy a mobile home for 2x-3x the sq footage and much cheaper?

I'm not saying I would do it. I was just saying that would be the only way I could do that.

Why buy a tiny house on wheels when you could buy an extremely nice RV for the same money? Make no sense to me. Now the larger (800sf or so) tiny homes could work I think, but those that are basically a Home Depot shed on a trailer... crazy.

because the 'tiny house' thing is trendy right now
seriously there are shows on netflix about this shite.

I don't understand the whole tiny house thing. For the coin people spend on them you could get into a damn nice 5th wheel and have more space/amenities and be truly mobile and self contained. You still have to pay to park it or own some land somewhere.

Not at that price. You're still not mortgage free. And you're sinking 80k plus interest into something that will be hard to sell when you want or need to move.
Better to move to the Landmass. You can get a real house for that kind of money.

they mostly build them as rentals
very few people actually live in them

I have 6 kids and I'm 6'4 245, so no I have never thought about it.
We have committed to the Dave Ramsey money makeover, however and have two vehicles and a rent house title in hand and a 2700 square foot house that will be paid off in a few years. I'd maybe suggest going there first

I love what they do with those tiny houses. They're definitely not for everyone. I was at one time considering the C-can route but now I'm committed to fixing up this 116 year old house.
