Apparently Verizon is making all Louisiana customers data free for the time of the flood. Very noble of them.

I've noticed a bunch of people on Facebook started a hashtag #makeitrightATT. They are demanding ATT do the same. Am I cynical for thinking they are a bunch of entitled leaches?

They should have Verizon in the first place

They said, "We got you, LA"

Someone at Verizon that is making the decision to do all this is a fricking genius. They are going to completely own this area once this is all over. AT&Ts silence and "there's nothing we can do" response is just coming off terrible compared to Verizon just being Santa claus right now

Just shared my text with my friend who has been without ATT service. I told him there was no usage for them to waive charges on.....

I got the text about 30 mins ago. Does the discount still work if I'm out of state? Does it go by billing address or by location in which the data is used?

Does this float to prepaid? I bought a prepaid Verizon sim for this flood.

Friend of mine is very high up at Cspire. Said when their service went out during Katrina and stayed out for a long time, it was the AT&T towers they were using. Their own towers worked fine.

I'm not asking for free data, I just want to be able to make calls and have people be able to call me. My service and the service of everyone I know on ATT has been fricked up since Saturday

You think Verizon did this as a business move? Try to get people to switch to them? It's still mighty noble of them, but I'm curious if they've done it before.. for what it's worth, I've been with Verizon since I first had a cell phone.

I can maybe reach my parents 25% of the times I try to call now. I basically have to attempt to call usually 8-10 times in a row and then I might catch them.

No, you're right. #makeitrightATT reeks of entitlement in this situation.

ETA: But of course this thread quickly becomes a vehicle to compare Verizon vs ATT

Probably by billing address because they might assume you're out of state from this crisis...displaced...

Yes they do. I think this is third event in last 5-6 years they've waived usage charges.

Verizon also will let you make free calls from the phones in any of their stores... Of course they probably will try to get you to switch to a better phone company during your visit.

Data is very useful. GPS, media coverage, VOIP calling, TD flood coverage. I know that supernovasky helped many people with his predictions.

I think they seized a great marketing moment. In a crisis, att failed and Verizon didn't. To make matters worse, the service still isn't back to 100%.

I hate att. I've got dsl thru them cause it's all i can get. They put a gigabit sign and flyer in my subdivision in April saying it would be finished by May. As of Aug 1, they still can't tell me when it will be available.
