In light of todays tragedy at the community college in Oregon and similar ones, do any of you, faculty or students carry on campus?

I have two in college right now and a senior in HS, it starting to worry me a little.

FWIW I CCW everywhere except work and I want to there.

If you're doing it right, nobody will ever know. That should answer your question.

Meh. If someone sees you carrying you're probably extra fricked considering the school shootings lately.

Not that I don't want to carry, but good luck dealing with that charge.

Isn't this illegal even if you have cc permit?

I have it in my truck. Not going to get fired over carrying it at work.

Academic jobs aren't growing on trees.

Highly Illegal. Federal law with pretty strict minimum sentencing I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I mean, what's the worst that could happen? Your kid lifts his shirt at the wrong angle getting into his desk and the gal behind him in Algebra sees his weapon. She freaks out, he gets arrested and expelled from school. With that on his record he's unlikely to find another school that will accept him, so he gives up and starts repairing mowers or whatever.

Or he actually does foil a campus shooting but accidentally shoots the aforementioned gal from Algebra who runs across the line of fire between the good samaritan and the perp, so he's got to answer for that...

Agree, just interested in how many might be doing it.

I open carried a large fixed blade knife and sat out of the view of the door.

With most rooms having only one exit, escape means action.

It is a bad situation all the way around.

What is the ruling on this? Car is considered an extension of your home, but you're in a no gun zone.

Or you decide it's not worth it to carry since your scared of being judged by 12 and one day a shooter comes in to class and kills everyone including you and therefore you're carried by 6.

And in MS if you have your enhanced permit as do I, then the ONLY place you can get federal penalties put against you for carrying is in a FEDERAL building that prohibits you from carrying.

Vehicle is explicitly listed as an exception. At least in LA.

I had a nice long argument with a dumb LSU PD officer that tried to arrest me for this. Keep the statute linked in my favorites now.

Turn off the news, and do the math. While tragic, these events are still very rare.

Why do you live in a state of fear? It's not the wild west out there. To each his own I guess.

Unless you're one of those actually shot and killed or injured.
