resort package in Jamaica? (with flight from New Orleans)

How was your experience here or any other Riu properties?

Seems like a good deal for 7 nights with flight for about $1200. All inclusive package in Jamaica.

About to book a vacation for the end of the summer. All responses are appreciated.

Prices are low at that time because it is peak storm/ hurricane season. Be very wary of this.

I've stayed at Couples Swept Away and really enjoyed it.

I have never bought travel insurance as it seems like it is similiar to extended warranties but you might consider it if you are going in August/September.

Couples Negril was great but it was 10 years ago when I went.

I realized it was prime hurricane season, so I figure an extra $200 really isn't bad for peace of mind.

I'll look into the other resorts.

Went to Sandals Ocho Rios for honeymoon in September of 2011. If you're willing to chance hurricane season, it's cheaper and not as crowded.

Went to Sandals Montego Bay this past April and loved it. The resort isn't as spread out and has a much better beach that Ocho Rios. It was a good mix of relaxation and fun, wife and I love beach volleyball and there were alot of good players when we were there.

The riu looks like a nice hotel though I haven't stayed there. Ocho rios is nice. I would probably prefer negril but I would stay at either before staying in Montego Bay.

Will be heading out for my 2nd trip to Jewel Runaway Bay resort in a month. It was formerly Breezes.
Our 1st visit was in 2012..amazing food and drinks, but more than anything the staff was awesome
and we had zero problems during our stay.

Riu looks like a much bigger place and the wife and I would be looking for the smaller crowds & quieter atmosphere.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Jamaica is a crime ridden shithole of an island. This, and Hurricane season spells disaster.

The wife and I went to Ocho Rios for our Honeymoon in 2003 to the Royal Plantation and had the best time of our lives. The rooms were incredible and the butler would come in whatever time you wanted and set up the breakfast table overlooking the ocean. I was pretty raw and untraveled at the time, but have been to many nice places and this still ranks close to the top of the list of places I've visited. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
