It's been put into motion according to Wikipedia, and it's slated to go through my area. Does anyone have any inside info on this?

It might be finished by 2103. There's no money for something like this.

Isn't that segment between Killeen and some other town been named I-14 already?

Involving two of the poorest states in Louisiana and Mississippi in this is a fantastic idea to make sure it gets done. shite we're having trouble finishing an interstate in I 49 that's been in the works for god knows how long. Not to mention I 69 that'll need to be started at some point in time.

The official signage ceremony was held April 22, 2017 in Killeen, Texas on the Central Texas College campus. More I-14 signs will be going up over the next few weeks

They recently put up the new signs over here in the Killeen area. They took US 190 here and are now calling it I-14. The road ends in Belton, where it turns into I-35. There is a load of construction over there, so I assume it is what they are working on. I suspect the transition will take a bit longer where they have to construct the road.

Brookhaven would be at the intersection of two interstates

Prepare for Metroplex status Brookhavenites! (Brookhaveners?)

Assuming this is federally funded, I would think that there would be no choice but to get this done.

Looks totally unnecessary and wasteful.

A lady who lives north of Shreveport along the I-49 corridor told me she was first contacted by the DOT about the new highway over 25 years ago. Still not complete.

You're welcome.

I fail to see the point of it, especially in GA, AL, and MS.

It looks like it connecting hwy 80 I20/59 and Hwy 84 and turning them into interstates. The stretch from Columbus to Ga would be Us hwy 80/GA96 which is a 4 lane road through absolutely nothing between Columbus, GA and I75/Warner Robins.

I don't remember where I read it from, but some article was stating that it was a strategic military decision. Having an interstate run through all of the major southern Army posts, connects to the I-10 around El Paso (Fort Bliss), and run to the east coast does make sense from a military standpoint.

Why? it would take a bunch of traffic off of I-10 and I-20

yes but there's no form of progress on it. it's a 2 lane highway that goes through several small towns right now.

i'd love it as it would improve my commute back to my home town from Temple, but i don't think they'll finish it in my life time.

Louisiana has to build I-14, I-69, and I-49. Good luck with that.

And the point of I-14 is to connect all those Southern forts with a quick route.
