Is there any explanation at all. Why would they do it? Was the victim her ex or something?

all i've been able to put together so far is the dude went for some sort of law enforcement training at a college nearby. Have no idea what would lead them to do something like this. Especially with those 3 children. The LEO had to have had some sort of close connection with the wife.

That's what I'm thinking. The husband found out about the wife cheating and the wife claimed the guy raped her or some such and they carried out a heinous act

He was a CJ major at Abilene Christian.
They have 3 tiny adorable little children that appear to be loved and well cared for. The Facebook stuff shows a lot of close friends and family. Outward appearances show a normal middle class family.
The press conference said there was evidence found at the crime scene linking them to it. There were eyewitnesses that saw them there.
They robbed him too and evidence that they stole was found at their home that ties them to the murder scene.
His fiancé is a good looking, slim blonde. I doubt he will be linked in any way to the female killer. There is a link though. He seemed to be specifically targeted.

Details have been sparse, even though arrests were made. Their is no sensory overloaded, instant gratification. The media and most of the OT moved on.
I intend to follow it for a while.

Apparently it was robbery. They had been selling his household goods and LE gear.
