I don't want to dox myself, but I was on a pretty famous podcast for a while.

I was sad when your podcast, CUM Town, ended.

I have no experience but I did look into it for a bit and I think its mostly about managing expectations. If you are in it to make money, you will most likely be disappointed. But if its just a fun hobby then you'll do great.

Keys from my research:

1) know the software.

2) be consistent with uploads. (Don't release 2 eps one week and then wait a month for the next and then one two weeks ater and then 3 within a week of that one.)

3) try to improve your editing little by little. One guy said he would pick one thing to try to upgrade every episode. Whether it be sound quality or segways, or the opening, or whatever.

my wife had a Pagan podcast for a while, but changed jobs and the amount of time she had to spend on research, recording and me sound editing kind of got messed up. been on hiatus a bit, not sure we will go back.

for a while we had some good listener stats - had people listening from 38 different countries.

No, I haven't. I don't Facebook or Tik Tok. I just had an idea that Facebook live would be easiest. My Book club did Facebook Live during Covid.

Tik tok is great platform to give you an idea if your content is hot/cold

If it’s long-niche stuff chances are you are going to end up doing it to hear yourself talk

You are what's wrong with your generation.

You want everything handed to you on a silver platter and don't want to put in any work.

For the love of all things holy PLEASE put up some sound absorption panels in the space you are recording in. Too many beginning podcasters sound like they recorded in an oil drum. Room treatment is even more important than the mic choice. While you don't want the room too dead you want to significantly reduce the reverb. Especially for male voices you don't want to use the cheap low density foam eggcrate sold everywhere. You want to use something like rock wool or Owens Corning 703. You can make it into cheap DIY absorption panels and there are tons of videos on how to DIY them. The farther south you are the harder and more expensive OC 703 are to find. Owens Corning Thermafiber Fire and Sound Gaurd is available almost everywhere and relatively cheap. I would suggest the 3.5" R15 batts which have good absorption coefficients down in the make voice frequency range. It would be nice to have some dispersion too but that can come later, absorption is critical.
