or know someone who is or was? Given the wide rage of OT knowledge and experience on every subject under the sun, there are bound to be a few.

I don't like to talk about it.

There are a pair of british guys who frequent the londoner. A guy who knew them in their teens is a friend of mine.
Apparently they disappeared and came back ten or so years later. Bigger, meaner, and with an intimate knowledge of north africa.
Could be bullshite, but I rarely see anyone who I wouldn't go toe to toe with if I had a few hits of bourbon in me. There was an issue concerning a pool game, and I politely tucked my tail between my legs and bought em each a beer.
Call it what you will, but you don't get that look in your eye seling girlscout cookies. And I make it a rule not to start a bar fight with a guy with a knife scar going through his palm or a guy with bullet scar in the neck.

As far as rules go, those seem like two pretty good ones.

Seems very similar to a story my dad told me about his friend. My dad is from England and one of his best friends disappeared for like 15 years and then just randomly showed up in a local pub one day. After speaking with him, my Dad said that the guy had just decided to join the French Foreign Legion after his parents died. Guy still lives in London now and I've met him a couple of times. But my Dad said it was so weird when he left because no one knew what had happened to him. To this day all my Dad knows is that he was a part of the French Foreign Legion (he's seen some documents and things confirming this) but the guy doesn't talk about it at all.

But did you get a look at their knuckles?

They are good for their purpose. I just don't know why France hasn't hired them for the purpose of destroying ISIS.
