That might be an exaggeration. My alma mater just beat them by 30.

Does anyone know current requirements to get into the magnet program?

This may already have been mentioned so pardon me if it's Germans, but for Lee High specifically the primary requirement to be admitted is for the student to live in LHS's attendance zone.

So Lee High being a magnet is a bit of a misnomer. Practically anyone who lives within its attendance zone will be eligible to be admitted but to stay at the school students will have to maintain a 2.5 gpa minimum and have 'good' attendance.

Here's a link describing the "magnet" program at Lee High

LINK

quote:

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board on Thursday agreed unanimously to convert Lee High from a traditional neighborhood school to a dedicated magnet program that all students living in south Baton Rouge’s attendance zone would be potentially eligible to attend.

“There’s almost no one that wouldn’t qualify for the program,” Bernard said.

Unlike Baton Rouge Magnet High, where students need high enough test scores and a minimum 2.5 GPA to get in, students interested in the proposed Lee High magnet would have to fill out an “interest inventory/aptitude” form. To remain in the program, students would have to maintain a 2.5 GPA, as well as good attendance.

ETA: I just read this entire thread and I see that what I posted has already been mentioned. Sorry about that. I did add a link explaining some of the issues with attending LHS so there's that....

They say that like it's a good thing.

What is so special about a program that lets everyone in?

I thought this would be better for BR, BRMHS doesnt have too many spots, so Lee would take them.

I'm puzzled also why it's even referred to as a 'magnet school.'

They may not be THAT bad. The day before we beat them by 30 they beat another team by 40.

I went to Lee for 1 yr (88-89), only sent to Peterwhip once for cutting TV/radio broadcasting.
The class was held in the auditorium...the one that Shouldda been condemned in 1980...i told him I was afraid of building collapsing during class and I panicked.
slap on the wrist.

ETA: I transferred back to private school after my new high - tops were stolen (off my feet) in the parking lot right after Christmas break.
