Deprivation of what you wanted, or thought you needed, subsided your OCD..why isn't this done for everyone with OCD?

I do but have mostly conquered it since my late 20s with medication and mental exercises. My worst issue is mind racing where I process insane amounts of info very quickly but it goes into a sort of loop in my mind where the same thoughts continue in the same order over & again. Mostly isn't an issue for me anymore unless I'm under extreme pressure.

My tennis partner knows that when she looks back to the service line and I'm alternating placing my left foot then my right on the line it's time for us to "strategize" so I can take a breath before I serve.

I don't think you can apply the solution for such a minor case, such as this, to someone that has a severe case.

The issue isn't the shower, it's the thought process that leads to the shower. The symptom was removed so the "disease was cured."

Most people with mild to moderate OCD have simply learned compensation techniques. Deprivation can be one such technique but it's application is very limited.

For me, the triggers and symptoms can vary greatly but the underlying issue is my internal struggle for balance and calm.

Not being rude, but that just sounds like you're a control freak.

I just don't get it. I'm sure I've been around people with OCD, I can't understand how people get worked up over weird shite. Seems a selfish disorder.

Yeah. I'm sure I'm not explaining it well. It's one thing to want to control everything around you. It's another thing entirely to have thoughts and an environment control you.

I feel no need to prove anything to some e-bro on TD who probably has no idea what legit mind racing is and how it can completey shut down all external responses.

OP asked for real life experiences as OCD. I was diagnosed over 15 years ago and am trying to explain the internal thought process from my viewpoint after years of self reflection.
