Just started a fork lift job 6 weeks ago so I could be on first shift. It kills my neck and back driving backwards, putting skids in bays 4 high, and going over dock plates over a 100 times a day. Does the pain ever go away,or can your neck get used to it? Feels like I have a knot in my neck

I worked in an Ag. seed and chemical warehouse a couple of years. Try not to flip it doing sweet donuts is my only advice.

I remember my first job.
I delivered furniture and moved stuff in the warehouse.
we didn't have a forklift

I manage a warehouse and hear those type of complaints all the time from new hires. My advice would be to read up on the best ergonomic practices and try to keep the best posture possible.
But to your question yeah eventually you get used to it.

Like anyone here would admit it if they were.

Get a back brace. You can wear them under your shirt. It will force you to keep the right posture.

I use a big propane yota lift at work, they replaced the foam filled tires with air filled. I was coming down a hill about 13 mph and almost flipped it lol.

On a serious note, if you stay on that lift jumping dockboards all day it's gonna lead to lower back surgery eventually.

I was not solely a forklift operator, but I did operate a forklift at my last job.
I know what you mean. The only thing I can tell you is there will probably be people trying to get you to do unsafe and impractical things. frick them. Your safety and longevity is more important than someone else's needs.

Well, drive forwards then. Duh.

You need to get a good back brace. More than likely your company would pay for it if you mention that you think it would help prevent any type of injury and lead to higher production. Mention something about safety these days and you are good to go.

I drive one when my warehouse guy is out. Been at it for over 20 years.
Take two Aleve and drink a lot of water.
