You can make them pretty easily. And you can buy some that will hang from a tree limb. Visit Tractor Supply and Lowes...you will get an idea of how diverse bird feeders are.
There's also a very good book, not sure if you can find anymore, called All About Louisiana Birds. It will give you all sorts of information on the best feed and feeders for each species of our most common birds. That information will also apply to most other species with the same feeding habits.

Bird baths and feeders. Also, if you have nest boxes in your yard, they are appreciated. I have 9 bird baths, 14 nest boxes, and two feeders. My yard is always full of birds of all kinds. They're my little buddies. My parrots love watching them too. Don't know why, but I have been fascinated by birds my whole life.

I am an avid bird watcher
There is a CD set, Birding By Ear, a must to learn about the calls.
Sibleys Guide is nice, I would go to the bookstore and look at books and decide what kind of guide works for you. Some have photos some have drawings also some classify by species while others do by color.
If you put out bird feeders look at different ones like platform as well as tubes. Also a birdbath is an awesome way to draw birds in too.

Are you in the South? Purple Martins are great birds to watch and they feed themselves.

"What's he got against birds?"
"He says the birds are scrounging"

And the same family comes back every year. My grandma had the same family for years and years until she passed

Pirple Martins range up to Wisconsin, Michigan. Not just a southern species. Watched my colony this evening. Such beautiful little creatures.

A mid level DSLR or mirrorless camera will work. Sony A6000 on the cheap. Canon 5Diii on the pricey end. But your gonna need a telephoto lens, which get expensive. A 200mm should work if your just gonna be on the porch. Some serious folks use a 500mm. Also gonna need a decent tripod or monopod to hold all that weight.
