Any A/C techs in the OT?

I just got home from work and the a/c is not cooling. There is air coming out of the vents but not cold air. The outside unit is not running at all including the fan. I checked the breaker and it isn't tripped or anything. Anybody know a quick fix or do I need to take a day off of work and call somebody? Thanks in advance.

Check and see if the water pan is full of water. There's a safety switch that prevents the outside unit from running if it's full.
It's underneath the evaporator coils, usually located in the attic.

Fuse could be blown
If it is, you can try to replace, but it could be a bad fan or compressor

If it were water in the pan the inside blower unit wouldn't work either. OP. Probably the dual run capacitor located in the outside condensing unit. Very easy fix and cheap. Is the outside unit making a humming noise?

Wow, I think this is the first time in the history of the OT that it's actually been the drip pan

I have never seen an AC unit where the drip pan is full and the inside evaporator unit still function.

Me neither but I think OP said it was the issue.
I had typed out a reply about checking the contactor and capacitors.

We need to know if outside unit is making a humming noise.

Well I just finished vacuuming the water out of the pan and as I was doing that I saw the lights shimmer like something had just cut on. I came down from the attic and felt the vents and it feels like they are blowing cold air. I turned the thermostat down a bit and I should know something shortly. The unit outside was completely shut down, no noises at all. I'll come back with an update. Thanks again for everyone's help

It'll fill back up quickly if you don't unclog the drains.

if the pan keeps filling up your primary drain is clogged, these usually run from the unit to a sink or was room.
I had to blow mine out with an air compressor last yr.

You know it's just possible the installer broke theY terminal instead of R so the indoor fan would still run

Step 2 is to clear the line so it will drain. Compressed air is your friend here.

There's a reason the safe pan is full of water.
Probably the condensate drain line is plugged. You could try blowing it out with compressed air or cleaning it out with Clorox. If you don't it's going to back up in the pan again.

Rule of thumb change your filter pour some bleach in the drain. Will never have an issue.

First thing I check every time. It is the reason I purchased a shop vac for Christmas. We hauled like 15 or so mop buckets up and down from the attic right before Christmas.
The only time it hasn't been the drip pan for me, I could just go outside and stick a spatula into the vent and manually get the fan spinning.. this is when the unit was humming and trying to run the fan but not spinning I don't recommend anyone go sticking spatulas into their appliances.

I will make sure that I clean out the drain. Thanks again for all of the help. It feels like it might be cooling a bit but it's hard to tell because the temperature is dropping a little outside. It was hot as Haiti in here when I got home so it might just take a while to cool off.
